Product Description

Equipped with Denon's innovative Dual Noise Cancelling system, the AH-NC800 headphones provide the optimum combination of quietness and audio fidelity. The AH-NC800 employs a Hybrid Aluminum Housing Material Housing to reduce ear cup resonance maximizing fidelity. It features not one, but two noise cancellation detection microphones. One microphone listens to ambient noise around the earpiece, while the other is internally mounted within the ear cup of the headphone to detect unwanted vibration and resonance. Together they provide superb noise isolation along with outstanding audio quality. For optimum comfort, the AH-NC800's feature 3D-contoured soft protein leather covers over super-soft compliant foam pads, together providing maximum acoustic isolation along with supreme comfort allowing for extended listening sessions without fatigue. The headphones are supplied with two different detachable Oxygen Free Copper cables, including a shorter (.7m) cable for connection to a portable audio player, and a longer (1.5m) cable for connection to a PC, airline jack or convention audio system. Both feature gold plated 3.5mm plugs. The headphones can be worn without the cable being connected, and can be used with or without the noise cancelling function activated. The AH-NC800 is also equipped with Denon's exclusive Compressed Audio Restorer circuitry, which provides re-construction of the full audio spectrum of compressed music formats. Noise Cancelling Ensures Immersive Listening

Background noise can interfere with a music listening experience. Thankfully, the Denon AH-NC800 over-ear headphones have been specially engineered to actively eliminate nearly 99 percent of ambient noise. Two integrated microphones are used to measure noise levels from both inside and outside the ear cup housing. Using these measurements, a cancelling signal is generated, effectively muting any interfering noise. You'll be able to listen to your music in complete isolation.

Proprietary Sound Technologies Provide Superb Playback

With their smooth highs and extended lows, the AH-NC800 headphones play back your music with startling detail, definition and dynamics. The speakers are engineered using Denon's Acoustic Optimizer system, which equalizes air pressure on both sides of the 42-millimeter speaker diaphragm to deliver a balanced, natural sound. The drivers are housed in non-resonant earcups crafted of a Hybrid Metal material, which helps absorb unwanted vibrations allowing you to hear extreme detail and definition. The headphones also feature Denon's Compressed Audio Restorer, a proprietary circuit designed to infuse compressed music tracks with detail and dynamics while extending frequency response.

Precise Engineering for an Optimal Listening Experience

The AH-NC800 headphones have been specially engineered to create an optimal listening environment for you. The earpads match a wide range of head sizes, and leave virtually no gap between the head and the ergonomically designed band. This helps seal off your ear from the outside world, further blocking ambient noises. The audio amplifier circuit has also been optimized to suppress unwanted electrical noise, ensuring maximum clarity.

The only credible review on noise canceling it to take it to flight, I brought my QC15 & Denon NC800. Once the cabin pressure, altitude and engine noise put together affect your body & hearing is a completely difference feeling than standing at BestBuy store or your living room. Bose QC15 still "a little bit better" in noise cancellation, a little bit but not that much. Music wise the QC15 is not nearly as good as the Denon NC800. Mid flight QC15 sounded so dull and disappointing, coz Bose's especialty is on Public Address System, even their headphones sounded that way, thats why they were never an audiophile marque, where a league Denon belongs. Yes NC800 noise canceling mode is just a notch lower than QC15, but that is an acceptable trade-off coz Denon sounded well at 40,000 feet, my iPod Nano Touch volume is only set to 1/3 with EQ off, very nice. I would be interested to test the Sennheiser MM500 & Denon NC800 next time I fly to HongKong. Here the final verdict done in mid flight from Newark to HongKong:

Bose QC15 - Best for noise canceling "ONLY"
Denon NC800 - Best for both noise canceling and music

I will pick the Denon hands down, noise canceling on denon is slightly less agressive than Bose but acceptable trade-off due to sound quality that never present on Bose.

After travelling to the US with a pair of Senheisser PXC 250 II and being very pleased with their performance, I was somewhat disinterested in listening to other noise cancelling headphones.

However in NYC,I auditioned a pair of these at J&R and I was knocked out by them - so I travelled home with two pairs of headphones! On a 7 hour flight, the Denons were an absolute delight - very comfortable, absolutely NO background noise from the plane and a wonderful noise reproduction from my MP3 player and the in-flight movie soundtrack too.

There are not many purchases that have had me smiling so radiantly! A superb product that is well engineered and looks built to last.

I keep it short:

Tried Ultrasone, Sennheiser and Bose. I settled on the Denon. Best value for money and sound quality. Very detailed sound, absolutely great noise cancellation (even though the Bose QC15 are a tad better). But the Denons beat the Boses hands down for sound accuracy and quality.

The "sound restorer" function does indeed do a bit of magic on crappy ripped mp3s but does not do much to higher quality mp3s or any lossless formats.

Anyhow, these headphones rock. You won't be disappointed. Make sure you let them burn in, it gets only better ;-)

I recently decided to replace my aging earbuds with some quality sounding travel friendly headphones. My father wouldn't let me be cheap and take his QC15, so I simply decided on getting my own pair. Since I'm a college student I wanted something I could carry around and wear on the flights. I ran across these off a recommendation from HeadRoom and decided that they seemed to fit the bill. After a few weeks here's my opinion.

> Sound Quality (Great):
This is one of the big selling points of these headphones. To those who haven't owned high end (~$200+) headphones before, this will definitely be a step up. The sound is fairly spacious and detailed. While several travel headphones usually offer a more colored sound, these stick to the reference style of giving even balance to all types of input. Denon is widely lauded as the kings of closed back sound, and it really shows here. At this price range however, you'll definitely find better sounding headphones, such as the D2000 or AKG Q701. However, I haven't seen a travel friendly model sounding better than this one, and very very few closed back versions. Definitely a richer sound than the QC15 and a more balanced sound that Beats which is more colored to favor certain music. I'd wager it is even with the cheaper Audio Technica ATH-M50.

To people who buy these, I'd recommend some burn in time first. For my pair they started off sounding somewhat muffled and quiet unless I really turned up the volume. After some hours of listening they seemed to, for lack of a better term, loosen up and sounded much better, and didn't need quite as much power. I know the concept of burn in is a somewhat controversial one, but I felt that it was somewhat true in this case, though not in my other headphones.

Bought these a few months ago - mainly for travel. I had an overseas trip planned and wanted to be able to drown out the typical noises - including people!

First off, I got these via Electronics Expo here on Amazon for only 170. They were listed as "Used - Like New". When they arrived I highly doubt they were ever used. All original packaging and plastic protective covering still in place. Great deal.

My prior experience with Active Noise Cancelling was a pair of NC ear-buds. They become uncomfortable after only a couple of hours and the noise-cancelling was mediocre at best. So I primarily focused my search on over-the-ear type headphones.

After receiving them a few months ago, I tested them out while mowing the lawn to mulch the leaves. They did a good job of cancelling out the mower - not completely, but I don't think even Bose could do that.

Next test was my international flight. DFW to Narita, Japan.... 13 and half hour flight.... I wore them pretty much the whole flight without any ear soreness or discomfort! Very, very comfortable to wear (and sleep!). Comfort was my number one priority and these exceeded my expectations! Plus, as a huge bonus, they sound GREAT from either my Ipod or the in-flight entertainment! I'm no audiophile, but these are the best sounding headphones I've ever worn. The bass is rich and deep and non-distorting with very clear mids and highs.

The noise-cancelling feature worked very well. Periodically, I would take them off and I was very surprised on how loud it was in the cabin. Crank up the music a bit, and that will be all you will hear.

I guess the only thing I can say is a "con" would be the lack of a mute-type button or some type of volume control either on the cord or the headset. The case is nice and the headphones fold up and fit very snug. Another nice touch is the velcro pouch to hold your accessories.

Very happy with this purchase!
