took time to setup, but I really like it so far,
By Snave Man "SnaveMan" (San Jose, CA) - See all my reviews I have a new ipod classic and this is my 1st experience with video on ipods. On the tiny screen, videos look quite good and (at least I) can watch a reasonable amount of them that way. I was hoping for a better video experience when using the ASD-3W. The video quality is just ok on my HD panasonic tv. Something just slightly below ordinary non-HD tv broadcasts. And some are better than others depending on the quality of the equipment used to shoot the video as well as any conversion software. So if you were looking to rip your DVD library to your ipod and enjoy those movies like you did from a DVD player, you will be disappointed. But for TV series and video podcasts, it's not too bad. The best thing though is along with all the music/video on the ipod, you have access to internet radio and also pics and music you have stored on your pc through win media player. This really makes the deal on this device. There is just tons of great FREE music and podcasts out there and this product allows you access to all that. The higher res channels/stations sound quite good too. It's also cool to view your digital pics stored on the PC while listening to your favorite internet radio station. I wish the video quality was better, but I think the start-of-the-art isn't quite there yet, but reasonably acceptable for now. I'm sure in several years we will have 1080p coming out of the ipods and devices like this will be the main AV entertainment device. I'm saving up for the next generation or the one after that. But I'm happy and pleased with this new addition to my AV system.

Great product,
By BB (Lodi, CA) - See all my reviews There is a nice choice of worldwide "internet radio" stations available to listen to. Playing songs from the iPod are very easy, as are songs from my computer's Windows Media Player. Photos from the computer play as slideshows. (I have not been able to find a way to control the playback of photos manually yet.) The instruction book is not the greatest, which is why I had a bit of trouble with the connection. I would highly recommend this product.

Great Concept, but unreliable and buggy!,
By Vince "Vince" (Atlanta, GA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Denon ASD-3W Wifi Network iPod Dock (Black) (Electronics)
The concept and features of the Denon ASD-3W are great and do work, but are very unreliable. Great concepts by Denon, but poor execution in both hardware and software reliability. This is by far the most buggy device I have ever owned. I am currently on the 3rd replacement unit, thus I know that it wasn't just one lemon. The units have been very buggy, lock up, and require power resets and sometime master reset button to restore. The Wi-Fi Encryption setup can be difficult has some non-intuitive final steps to setup. Mine often requires a power reset in order for it fully attach with to my network. My first device worked fine for a while, but began causing my Denon AVR-2808CI reciever to lock up finally requiring a master reset on the reciever, which wipes out all programming and EQ settings. When it works, the Internet Radio sounds great, especially with stations at 128Kbps or higher bit rate. It gives you great access to a wide variety and genre of Internet Radio stations from all over the world. This can be particularly nice if you no longer live in a town or country where you enjoy the music. My current unit has now become unreliable or won't work in docked mode with my nano, where this was not a problem before. Given the complexity of this device, minor bugs and restarts would be tolerable. But the instability of this product far exceeds my tolerance threshold. My recommendation would be to hold out for Denon to provide a completely new upgrade/model and hope for significant improvements in stability. I do not recommend this device in it's current form. Disappointing, since I have been very satisfied will many other Denon products I own.

Easy to Setup, No Mac Support,
By
This review is from: Denon ASD-3W Wifi Network iPod Dock (Black) (Electronics)
Overall, I think this is a solid product. I didn't have any problems getting it to work on my network and I use both MAC address filtering and WEP encryption. The audio quality is very good and the UI, while a bit slow and odd, is pretty easy to get used to after about an hour of use. While I like the Internet radio features, I don't like the fact that I can't use the jukebox / computer music sharing feature with my Mac mini. It appears you can only make that feature work with Windows Vista. That's a poor design choice, in my opinion. If you're a Mac user who doesn't need the internet radio streams, you could go with a less expensive dock and have a similar experience.

Not Ready for Prime Time,

I ordered this because I have a Denon AV receiver and the Denon combatability chart said it would work with an i-phone 3GS. It does not unless you go through a complicated, lengthy update of the firmware on line. To do that you have to hook it up to a video screen with an S-video input which in my case was nowhere near the computer outlet. Long story short it now works with the i-phone, but I have not been able to get it to work through the receiver. Denon's instructions are HORRIBLE. I am an audio equipment nut and it has me stimied. Now I will have to take a a half day off work to sit home with the receive and get tech support to see if I can actually use it as planned. Needless to say, I have not gotten to the internet radio functions yet, so no review there.

I keep hoping it will work better,
This review is from: Denon ASD-3W Wifi Network iPod Dock (Black) (Electronics)
I bought this product about 2 years ago and I really looked forward to the features it had. However, the menu is buggy as all hell and freezes up quite frequently. Furthermore, it seems to induce noise into my system from time to time for no apparent reason. And yes, then there is the time it shuts off for no reason. On the upside, the wifi was easy to set up for me. I did get mine when they first came out so may they ironed out all the kinks. (and no firmware updates have helped in the least bit).I do keep hoping that one day a magical firmware update will come and solve all of its problems, but after 2 years, I am doubtful.

ASD-3W Wireless,

The Denon ASD-3W connected to my D-link 615 with no problems (WPA-2). The internet radio works fine but will only play WMA and MP3 stations but there is plenty to choose from. I have it hooked up to an avr-889 and the remote works fine, when you have the link cable connected to the receiver you just have to point the remote at the receiver so you can put the asd-3w out of site.THE ASD 3W DOES RUN HOT I don't know why but I wouldn't keep it in an unventilated cabinet, even in stand-by. Overall I like it, my i pod touch works in it and the wireless works.

Piece of junk...returned for another per denon tech support, second one wouldn't work with Denon AVR 1908. Six hours long distance (not tollfree) with Denon..no luck...now it just buzzes. JUNK! TECH SUPPORT-the worst.

This is a great docking station for the money. The sound is great as far as what the manufacturer says it can do it does. Love the remote control. I would like to see two improvements: would like to see and opticle output for audio and if you do not have it set to a monitor I would like to to show the play information on the ipod screen instead of Denon screen saver. Now for what this unit does for the price it is well worth it.

This product ultimately works as advertised. However, it is finicky to set up and requires resetting (unplug and replug) frequently when changing ipod in and out. The finicky setup is primarily in the network settings. You have two choices, auto detect and manual setup. Because it doesn't pull all of the network settings from the server, it requires everything to be set up manually (you can't just fill in the blanks). Maybe just my unit but the connector is also finicky and I had to get an extender cable to get a reliable connection with my IPOD Touch (first gen). I have a Denon AVR988, also, which has good sound and features but the complexity of the user interface seems to be a pattern with Denon.
