Premium Audio Technologies for Superb Surround Sound
Fully compatible with current HD audio formats, the Denon AVR-1612 5.1-Channel A/V Receiver provides powerful, theater-quality surround sound. It ensures maximum audio performance with multiple technologies:

  • Equal Power Amp Design: Each of the AVR-1612's five 75-watt* channels is powered by its own discrete circuit. This allows the receiver to reproduce original sound more faithfully than conventional models, which use integrated circuits.
  • High-Definition Audio Support: The AVR-1612 features support for Blu-ray high-definition audio formats, including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. These formats play back sound with exceptional fidelity, providing a more realistic listening experience.
  • Dolby Pro Logic IIz: Providing two additional height channels, this feature adds a vertical dimension to the soundstage, providing more immersive surround sound (with an optional, external amplifier).
  • Audyssey MultEQ Support: Audyssey technology helps create an optimal acoustic profile for your home theater. Using a microphone, Audyssey MultEQ measures sound levels and adjusts speaker configuration accordingly, making setup fast and easy.
Full HD Support
With four HDMI inputs, the AVR-1612 allows you to route multiple high-definition devices--like game consoles and Blu-ray players--to your TV. It also allows you to connect all of your devices to your TV with a single HDMI cable, reducing cable clutter.

Vivid 3D Visuals with HDMI v1.4a
The AVR-1612 comes equipped with HDMI v1.4a, allowing you to make the most of several premium video features:

  • 3D Pass-Through: With the advent of 3D media, it is important to own a receiver that recognizes 3D video signals. The AVR-1612 is able to pass through 3D signals from your Blu-ray player, ensuring that the 3D effect doesn't get lost in translation. It also recognizes signals from 3D television broadcasts.
  • Audio Return Channel:HDMI v1.4a also features Audio Return Channel functionality, which allows for audio content from your display to be played back through the AVR-1612 via the single HDMI cable that goes from the receiver to the display. This eliminates the need for separate audio and video cables running from your TV to the receiver.
  • Deep Color and x.v.Color Support: The AVR-1612 also supports Deep Color and x.v.Color content, which can display a larger color range than standard-definition schemes. The result is a more lifelike, vibrant picture.

With a built-in USB port, the AVR-1612 supports digital music playback from an iPod, iPhone, iPad, or USB drive. The receiver can also be used with the Denon Networked Control Dock (sold separately) for network streaming or docking your iPod/iPhone. A compressed audio restorer guarantees that standard MP3 playback is crisp and clear.

GUI Overlay and Remote Control for Simple Operation
With its programmable functions and intuitive button layout, the AVR-1612 is designed for ease of use. The front panel is smartly organized, featuring clearly labeled buttons and onboard controls for volume and source. In addition, its on-screen display provides quick information about your system's settings.

The AVR-1612's simple remote control is easy to use, giving you more flexibility in controlling your home theater.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Value February 28, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
I recently purchased an AVR-1612 receiver to better accommodate HDMI-based signals for my 5.1 home theater set up. This is my third Denon receiver (woof - I must be getting old!). I've been well pleased with all of them and probably would still be using the older ones except for the forced, technical obsolescence we consumers have to deal with.

So far, I am similarly pleased with this new unit. The HDMI pass-through is crystal clear. It's nice to finally have an on-screen display when changing receiver settings. I am also very pleased with the newer, higher-definition audio settings for blu-ray disks. One of the first things I listened to with the new unit was Steve Wilson's "Grace for Drowning" on blu-ray. In a word -- sublime.

The audessy set up worked reasonably well, but I found myself making some tweaks afterword (hey - what fun would it be without tweaking?).

I was initially worried about whether 75 watts/channel would be enough power in my great room, but it's fine. With reasonably efficient speakers and a powered subwoofer, it'll play loud enough to send your significant other scurrying from the room.

At a price point of $300, it's hard to imagine a better value in an A/V receiver.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great buy for the price! July 14, 2011
By texpert
I also bought this product at best buy for $300. What an amazing product for the price! Paired with some Klipsch HDT speakers, you can't go wrong if you are looking to do a low budget theater. The audyssey calibration is great. It is by no means comparable to adaptIQ from Bose (I also have a lifestyle system), but again it's 300 bucks compared to 4k so my impressions are amazing. One thing that annoys me is that when you change speaker levels and modify you audyssey setup, it does not save the levels so it reverts to the configure setup after power cycling. That to me is annoying. I realize there is a manual setup but I want the auto setup and I want to be able to tweak it myself after it is setup. I do notice that it also balances tone (in other words if your playing a song with a lot of treble it will automatically balance it out based on your settings/calibration setup or vice versa with bass so you get an optimal listening experience.) Pretty nifty feature for a reasonably priced product. It has native iPod support, but I have not figured out how to simulate the 2-channel input to 5 channels so that i can listen in surround. As for build quality, it is superbly crafted and looks like the engineers really put some thought into it. There are a ton of inputs and it allows you to consolidate 4 hdmi inputs into 1 cable that plugs into your tv. (perk!) Soud reproduction is great. Recommend using either fiber optic, hdmi or coaxial connection to really take advantage of what this receiver has to offer. Overall it's a great product, but if you don't care about auto mic calibration or a direct iPod connection via USB, save some cash and get the one right below this. Just make sure that it meets your speaker requirements (wattage and impedance) and you'll be fine. Denon makes high quality receivers and if you're looking to put together a great theater on a tight budget on a 600W limit, I fully recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great receiver July 11, 2011
I recently purchased this and was amazed at the capability of this as well as the ease of using it. The auto calibration for the sound in the room works great. I was pleased to know that the remote also functions as a remote for other devices, which elminated me from having to buy a logitech remote. The remote however doesn't have the full functionality of the other device remotes, but does about 90% of what you would need it for.

I got this for just over $300 at BB, while it was on sale. I looked at many other receivers and even two individuals working there had this receiver. That tells me that they believe it is a great product. This item for the price will not disssapoint and has everything a person should need. If you need more functions and feature and capability with clarity, then you need to spend more. You are not going to get anything better in this price range.
