Last year Denon's AVR 1912 and 3312ci received excellent reviews from some of the most respected web sites in home theater entertainment. Fast foward to 2012, this seems to be the year of 4K, 3D, Air Play, more power per channel and other cool features built-in on home theater receivers. I got my Denon AVR 3313ci for my family room and let me tell you, the Denon legacy continues. It has all major digital decoding formats, better GUI than last year, easy to use remote control and the power of 125w x 7ch at 0.05% of THD. Now specs aside, this AVR is one powerful performer for both movies and music, but before we get into that there are some minor drawbacks you should know;

This receiver lacks wi-fi and bluetooth which I found inexcusable for a receiver at this price. Other competitors like the new Sony STR-DN1030 are incorporating these great features for a unit half the price. While the remote control is very good, is not fully backlit. The GUI display is easy to navigate and is far better than those found on Onkyo receivers, but this is one area that still need some improvement. I'm surprised that Denon decided not to include Audyssey MultEQ XT32 which is such a turn off, the Onkyo TX-NR818 has Audyssey XT32, DTS Neo X and is THX Select 2 Plus certified, and right now is $200 less. Another thing that capture my attention was that if you change your speaker settings after the Audyssey set up you will not be able to activate or select Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume, but to me this is a limitation of MultEQ XT and its something that doesn't happens on some models like the Onkyo TXNR818.

I swapped my Onkyo TX-NR809 with Denon AVR-3313. Before Onkyo, I was using Yamaha RX-V3900 and I just wasn't satisfied with the power output of Yamaha. My speakers are Klipsch (RF-82 II, RC-62 II, RS-52 II, SUB-12, and a DIY subwoofer as mid-bass module).
Now over to the Denon AVR-3313; it is my first ever Denon and I'm all sold on it and a Denon fan forever.

VIDEO
There is hardly any difference in video performance between Onkyo 809 and Denon 3313. Video chipset used on Denon is at par with that on Onkyo 809.

AUDIO
Audio is the main performance area where Denon 3313 will chew alive the 37lbs heftly Onkyo 809, though Denon only wieghs in at 26 lbs. I am in awe as to how much power this little monster is pumping out. The difference is not in the heavier power supply of Onkyo; it's rather in the discrete circuitry (HammerHead SHARC 192Khz/24 bit Audio DACs on all 7 channels) and shorter audio path between the pre and pro section in Denon 3313. They collectively reduce noise and reproduce sound with bare minimum distrotion. The result is outstanding audio reproduction both in movies and music. Denon offers surprisingly tremnedous amount of power, deeper and wider soundstange, fantastic and most accurate channel seperation, and really immersive sound for movies and music alike. The highs have weight and do not sound thin. It's sort of like you feel the guitar strings in your chest with each pluck of string.

Make sure you run full 8 point Audyssey setup. My speakers are crossed at 80hz on avr. Also, remember your speakers can sound as good as they are. If you feed them bad recordings; they will sound terrbile. If you feed them good recordings, they will sound as good as they are.

Multi-source, multi-zone functionality is awesome. I am using this receiver to power my living room as well as my screen porch & outside deck. It's great that the kids can be inside watching TV while I'm outside enjoying a cold one, listening to some music being Airplayed & controlled from my phone on the outside zone. I have seen some people complain about the Denon Remote App, but my experience with both the remote app & the Apple Airplay functionality has been great.

Once I get tired of the Airplay, I can switch over to Pandora or another source, all just by taking my phone out of my pocket. The remote app gives me the capability to turn zones on & off, switch sources, control volume, etc. It's pretty slick!

I had need to replace an older Denon AVR-3200 and was going back and forth between the AVR-2313 and the AVR-3313. I finally settled on the 3313 and am very pleased. First off, I have a AVR-5700 also that powers my 4 sets of speakers throughout my house, so the 3313 was going to be used only as a home theater receiver. My 5700 pumps out 140 WPC while the 3313 gives 125 Watts Per Channel, you can't not tell the difference. The 3313 sends powerful, clean signal to my 7 speaker, 2 subwoofer HT system. I tested the system with a couple of movies. The first 30 minutes of Saving Private Ryan was incredible. The sound of bullets flying everywhere and the impact of the explosions send shockwaves down to my spine! The dialogue coming from the center channel was clear and sharp and never muffled or muted. Next up was "Independence Day." This oldie, but goodie still can test the mettle of any AV unit and the 3313 did not disappoint. The scene where the jet fighters first combat the alien fighters was exciting! I felt as thought alien spacecraft were flying all over the place in my small 12x13 foot movie room. The spaciousness of the surround sound was clear and very sharp. Nice!
I next decided to try my iTunes library via AirPlay. The 3313 had no problem picking up my library wirelessly and the receiver played my selections without a hitch and very clean sound. Considering that all my music files were 320 kbps mp3's, they sounded pretty good! I played Bloodbuzz Ohio by The National and the rhythmic beat was very clear with no muddiness in the bass. Lead singer Matt Berninger's baritone voice boomed without any cloudiness; very sharp and clean. I next tried a CD.
