The AVR-785S is proof that high power and high quality do not necessarily translate to a high price. With seven channels of amplification to drive all the primary speakers in a 7.1 surround sound system (front left/right speakers, center speaker, rear left/right speakers, and rear left/right surrounds, along with a preamp output for the ".1" low-frequency subwoofer), the AVR-785S delivers topnotch home theater surround sound for the latest Hollywood blockbusters and low-budget indies. But because not everyone is ready to fill their listening environment room with eight speakers, the AVR-785S also offers selectable modes for 5.1- and 6.1-channel setups as well as a Virtual Surround function that provides an enveloping sound for two-speaker systems or headphones. The receiver's power checks in at 80 watts per channel into 8 ohms from 20 Hz to 20 kHz or 115 watts per channel into 6 ohms at 1 kHz.

Precisely designed for high-power, high-quality sound reproduction, the AVR-785S contains a specially architected chassis that absorbs vibration and delivers a more faithful reproduction of the original sound. In addition, Denon's Twin Drive Rectifier supplies ample current to accurately depict deep bass frequencies as well as sudden bursts of sound from percussion or other musical instruments. Meanwhile, the large aluminum extruded heat sink ensures that all the channels respond equally to the demands of the audio signals. To make video connections simpler and more intuitive, the AVR-785S also offers video up-conversion for composite and/or S-video sources. Finally, the receiver performs 24-bit, 96 kHz analog-to-digital conversion on all stereo analog inputs except the multichannel analog jacks, along with 24-bit/192 kHz high-resolution digital-to-analog conversion on all eight surround channels to ensure premium playback sound. In addition, the adjustable high- and low-pass crossovers (40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 150, 200, and 250) let you tailor the sound to suit your speakers and listening space.

Video connectivity stems from the three assignable sets of component video inputs, three S-video inputs, and four sets of composite inputs.
