These comfortable and lightweight in-ear headphones feature Denon's advanced active noise canceling technology reducing unwanted ambient noise by up to 99%. Large 13.5mm drivers provide wide dynamic range throughout the entire audible spectrum. These drivers are encased in Denon's hybrid material driver housings contributing to exceptional sonic neutrality. Powered by a single AAA battery, widely available on the go, the AH-NC600 headphones provide up to 60 continuous hours of noise reduction. The headphones can also be used without the noise canceling function activated. Denon's Acoustic Optimizer technology provides exceptional balance that is free from enclosure-induced coloration. The AH-NC600 are the first Denon headphones to feature the innovative Compressed Audio Restorer function, which restores very high frequency harmonics that are lost in the audio compression process. For optimum fit and comfort, the AH-NC600 headphones are supplied with 3 sizes of silicon ear pads (S/M/L) as well as a separate pair of soft foam ear pads. The deluxe carrying case can be used as a stand for your portable A/V player.

I travel a lot on business and recently lost my JVC noise cancelling headphones so needed a replacement. I use headphones to listen to films off a PSP and music off a Sony reader and a Blackberry, but often on a flight I don't plug any music in and just use them to mute the sound of the cabin.

I tried the Bose over ear 'phones but decided the size and price were both a bit much for something I'll be carrying every day. I bought the Denons at duty free before a 7 hour flight and was pleased to find that a battery was included in the box. The battery compartment is a bit fiddly but the cover is captive which is clever - I've previously had some anxious moments looking for a small black plastic cover on the floor of a plane. The build quality is good and I liked the simple black finish - some of the phones I considered had attempted bling and consequently looked cheap and tacky.

Most importantly, the sound quality is very good with deep bass, clear mids and highs. It's not in your face, just pleasingly neutral with no colouration. I've since tried to hear the hiss mentioned in another review when noise cancelling is turned on, and totally failed to detect it. Either they had a dodgy sample or my ears are shot. The noise reduction also works well - turning it on produced the expected reduction in cabin noise.

I tried the different buds supplied, and found the medium size sealed well and were still comfortable at the end of the flight.

Very impressive, and they come in a very nice travel case which offers more protection than a pouch and has room for the extension lead, the supplied aircraft adapter and some spare batteries.

[further thoughts after about a month - I have now experienced the hiss mentioned in other reviews.

Made of cheap and thin plastic. On/Off button is so loose that it rattles. Battery compartment door really difficult to open. It's so flimsy and ill-fitting that I almost broke it trying to open it for the first time. Tried noise cancelling effect on a turbo-prop plane, on a normal jet plane, and on the train. There is some minimal noise reduction but it comes at a price: The noise gets replaced by a powerful hissing that sounds as though you suddenly switch from your MP3 player to a radio with bad reception. I don't expect the stunning noise cancelling effect that my Bose QC3 has -- but still: Absoultely disappointing. Not worth the money at one thenth of the price. Would have given 0 starts if possible.

The ear buds fit nicely and the noise canceling works, but the build quality is disappointing. The box connected to the headphones makes a hissing noise when turned on and feels very cheap. The sound is clear and has a precise bass but everything else is awful. I don't recommend these ear buds because you can find better for half the price.

I bought these (not through Amazon - at B&H in NY) before a 10 hour flight to Istanbul, had no chance to try before the flight. Previously I owned the Audio-Technica ATH ANC3 and the Sony MDRNC33 both of which are priced around $50.
I find the Denon lacking in both the sound quality (very low bass performance, making the music very flat) and especially noise reduction as compared to the other two. I use the Audio-Technica ATH ANC3, my son uses the Sony MDRNC33, and the Denon was a gift for my wife. I had all three earphones on the flight and could compare them. Sony and Audio-Technica were almost equal in sound quality and noise reduction, Denon was much lower in both aspects, in my opinion.
Knowing what I know now, I would not buy it for any price, as this performance is way below my expectations, if it were selling for $10, it would not tempt me. $200 is in my opinion completely outrageous. I pity myself for having bought this at $200 and painting myself in a corner where I cannot return it. This is to help you avoid the same mistake. At least listen to it before you buy, sound performance would be enough to dissuade you.
