I've been DJing for a few years using M-Audio's X-Session Pro, and doing a few parties, I decided it was time to upgrade. I choose the Denon's MC3000 because I wanted something compact, but could withstand some heavy set hands, also I wanted to learn how to scratch. Plus the soundcard and quality are both professional grade.

The first thing I noticed even before opening the box is, that the sucker is really heavy. I've handled a few DJ controllers at parties my friends DJ at and this was stood out from the most hefty. Before I bought the MC3000 I had a Numark Mixtrack Pro, which although well built, it is full plastic. I always felt like it wasn't meant to be played in a hectic environment (club, bar, house party). The MC3000 is a truck, full metal design, with rubber knobs and rubber buttons that click back for feed back and tactile feel. Jog wheels are small but they're professionally designed, spin the sides to pitch bend and the tops are pressure sensitive to stop and scratch the track if you need. Also note that you can control four decks with the two jog wheels via 'deck control' buttons located at the top and sides of the controller.

Although I love the controller, there are a few flaws. The biggest one being that even though it says "traktor ready", it's not optimized for traktor and there is a bit of latency between the program and the MC3000 you can feel it in the jog wheel and the crossfader. Also the controller is cluttered, but not in a bad way but everything is very close together. It just takes some time to get used too. I must mention that my 'cue 1' button is indented and I haven't even used it in the less than a week I've had it.

I got mine in the states, which means it was shipped with Virtual DJ LE, and I haven't spent much time with the program.

My cousin bought this together with the Odyssey case for it. Nice rig up. Hook up to the controller was easy: PC headphone out to the controller (input 1), then (unbalanced) output to a single full range monitor (DAS 115) with USB to PC. I installed the Virtual DJ LE that came with the controller, together with the ASIO driver. At first I couldn't get the cue working on the headphones. I read online that on your PC on V-DJ- go to Config at the top, select output to be headphones and speakers, with ASIO driver. I can't remember whether it was Chan 1&2 - Master/Ch 3&4 to Headphones, or the other way around. After I rebooted the pc, with the controller connected to USB and controller switched on, I then started the software. It worked fine after that.

I have little to no prior experience DJ'ing except off an iPad1, but after watching a couple of videos on the controller on youtube, it was fairly easy to learn the controls (without reading the manual - I know I know - RTFM!!) But I was able to be up and running with the controller in a very short space of time. I showed my younger brother a few basics on it, and he went to town on it for about 3 hours straight at a house party at home! My wife and others around were impressed! :S. We didn't attempt to do any beat matching, but you can definitely do it on this quite easily. Multiple cue points are great to have. Loop functions useful also.

Very tactile feel of all the buttons. Jog wheel feels firm, but sensitive response. song selector very easy to get used to. Crossfader feels a bit too loose for my liking, and your hand can easily nudge it off point. EQ very useful. I even connected a Gemini dual mic wireless receiver to the single mic input and others had a lot of fun on the two microphones too.

I use this to control traktor on my mac. It works very well and has everything i need. Buttons and knobs for controlling effects, cue points, hi/lo filter, key lock, sync, looping, and some other stuff. it can control four decks in traktor. you can run two auxiliary inputs through it, but you can not run these trhough any software on your computer nor can you adjust the EQ on the aux inputs.. it basically can act as an external soundcard and amp/receiver. i connect my synths into the aux inputs and then can hear these on my monitors. Or, I connect this and use it to play music from itunes over my monitors. also, this thing gets VERY VERY loud. I have never been able to turn this up all the way. if i did i would blow all my speakers. even connected to a PA system i can't usually turn the main up past 50%. As of today, the amazon price is $333 which is about $100 less than what I paid, so I would say it's a good deal.

I have two complaints:
The housing for the headphone jack is made of some very cheap plastic. When it arrived, the housing was loose and jiggling around inside of the unit. I had to coax it out and then use the washer and nut that came loose in the controller's packaging to fasten it in place. Due to the threading on the headphone jack being stripped, it did not ever tighten completely and periodically I would have to redo it. Eventually I took it back to Guitar center and they disassembled the entire thing and and superglued the headphone jack in place and secured it with a different nut. This annoyance and lack of quality control was pretty disappointing considering what I paid for it and that it is made by Denon.

My other complaint has to do with the jog wheels. Their response in traktor is a bit delayed.
