Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The DRW-585 is an affordable dual auto reverse cassette deck offering a host of convenient, easy-to-use tape editing functions, such as memory stop, which lets you automatically stop the tape at any desired location, and high-speed dubbing to copy tapes from deck A to deck B at twice the normal speed. The DRW-585 also provides a backlight so you can easily monitor the remaining amount of tape. In addition, the audio circuit includes a bias fine tuning feature to ensure that each tape type performs at its maximum potential. Of course, the DRW-585 is also equipped with Dolby B and Dolby C noise reduction systems, as well as Dolby HX Pro headroom extension to minimize noise from the tape and eliminate distortion in the high frequency range, providing crystal clear recording and playback.

Features:

  • Both sides auto-reverse
  • One side record/play
  • Normal and high-speed dubbing
  • Dolby B and C noise reduction systems
  • Dolby Hx Pro headroom extension system
  • Dual tape counters
  • MPX filter switch for recording off FM
  • Manual bias adjustment
  • Infrared front panel remote sensor equipped

Detailed Features:

  • Full Selection of Play and Recording Modes
(Single, Reverse, Relay, Timer Play, Timer Recording)
The DRW-585 provides a variety of playback and recording modes. Besides the usual Single and Reverse play modes, when the Relay Play mode has been selected and the Play button is pressed, deck A first starts playback, followed automatically by deck B after both sides of the tape in deck A have been played. This feature permits long, uninterrupted music playback. You can also connect an external power timer to the DRW-585 to allow you to wake up to your favorite tape, or to take advantage of the deck's Timer Recording mode.
  • Memory Stop
If you press the Memory button, turning on the Memory Stop function ("MEMO" is displayed), and then press the Rewind button, even during playback, the tape will rewind and automatically stop at the "0000" position on the tape counter.
  • Normal or High-speed Dubbing
Two dubbing modes are provided: Normal and High-speed. The latter mode copies tapes from deck A to deck B at two times the normal speed of tape travel.
  • Dolby B/C Noise Reduction
Dolby B reduces tape hiss by up to 10 dB, and Dolby C reduces tape hiss by up to 20 dB, perfect for recording from CD.
  • Manual Bias Adjustment Control
A variable bias adjustment is provided for greater control over recording characteristics. The center stop position provides the best results with most tape brands. The variable adjustment allows you to fine-tune the recording bias for the flattest frequency response with virtually any type of tape (type I and type II).
  • CD Synchro Record Function
The CD synchro record function allows you to easily make recordings from your Denon CD player without performing separate operations on both the cassette deck and the CD player.
  • Backlight
A backlight is provided to let you see the remaining amount of tape more easily.
  • Independent Tape Counters for Deck A and Deck B
Deck A and deck B have their own tape counters so you can monitor the progress of both tapes simultaneously.
  • Other Features
    • Auto reverse
    • Auto tape selector
    • Auto space
    • Non-slip reel drive
    • Full auto stop
    • Multiplex filter switch (for recording off FM stereo)

5.0 out of 5 stars Denon DRW-585 Dual-Well Cassette Deck, August 15, 2006
This review is from: Denon DRW-585 Dual Well Cassette Deck (Electronics)
When my thirteen-year old NAD 6340 Stereo Cassette Deck slowly started wearing out, I decided to browse for another high-quality cassette deck.

I had searched through various internet websites and local electronic stores. With the popular usage of Compact Disc's and other digital media today, I knew that finding a good cassette deck would be a struggle. Many cassette decks simply aren't produced with the same quality and expectations of that from the late '80s and '90s. After a long search, I finally settled with the Denon DRW-585 Dual-Well Cassette Deck.

Upon using the product, I was pleasantly surprised. This deck provided a clean and clear smooth sound along with the warm sound of analog. Music actually sounded realistic and the way it was originally intended. The harshness and forcefulness of CD's was gone. I never thought that cassettes could sound this good!

Aside from the sound, this cassette deck has it's set of features. The Dolby Noise Reduction (B & C) is key to eliminating hiss and other annoying disturbances during playback. Also, the deck is equipped with Dolby HX Pro which further improves the dynamic range. The Dubbing system is vital for recording cassette to cassette. This system was very useful as I had tapes that I feared of losing due to tape length that I could recapture on shorter length tapes. The deck has a convienant Rec Pause button which is great for making mix tapes. The deck is also equipped with an Music Search System, MPX Filter, Relay and Auto Reverse.

I highly recommend the Denon DRW-585 Dual-Well Cassette Deck to anyone in search of a quality cassette deck. Although it can be a little pricey (two-hundred and up) regarding decks of today, the quality and durability is without question.

3.0 out of 5 stars The days of great sounding cassette recordings are gone, November 20, 2006

This review is from: Denon DRW-585 Dual Well Cassette Deck (Electronics)
I bought this deck a week ago, exchanged it for another one, and my overall impression is that the quality of its recording capability is markedly inferior to my old Aiwa F770 deck, for which I cannot get replacement parts any longer. On the up side, this Denon deck plays my old tapes beautifuly, but its ability to record is markely inferior, with a noticeable degree of wow and flutter. For well recorded CD sources of string music like mandolins, the recordings it makes are barely listenable. For me the primarly utility of this Denon deck is to continue to have the ability to play old recordings, and to have a deck which seems well made and likely to last a while. CD and Flash memory recordings are so much better, that if I were you I'd think twice about buying any tape deck, unless you have a similar need to access old rare cassette recordings.
