5.0 out of 5 stars Denon DVD-5910CI, May 8, 2008
This review is from: Denon DVD-5910CI A/V Progressive Scan DVD Audio/SACD Player with Realta T2 HQV (Electronics)
The Denon DVD-5910CI is one serious hardcore audiophile SACD/DVD-A/CD machine. It better be for $3,800!

The sound quality is excellent. It has the best DACs in the business - the flagship Burr-Brown PCM-1792 (DSD Discrete). The PCM-1796, which is featured in the Denon AVP-A1HDCI, Denon AVR-5308CI, Yamaha Z11, & Onkyo 905, is actually the second-in-line model. The PCM-1792 is the top-of-the line.

The thing about MOST SACD machines is that they don't have the DISCRETE DSD-to-Analog conversion. Most SACD players have to convert DSD to PCM first, and then convert to Analog. But the 5910CI has discrete DSD. However, as with all DSD-discrete SACD machines, you can only get DSD-discrete if you bypass all bass management and set all your speakers to full range 20 Hz - 20 kHz. The reason is because bass management can only be done in the PCM domain, not analog.

The picture quality is outstanding. The Video chip in the 5910CI is the flagship Silicon Optix Realta, which is also featured in the Denon AVP-A1HDCI. It can upscale your picture to full 1080p. The 5910CI scored a Perfect HQV score of 130/130 points!

The built quality is awesome. It feels extremely rigid and well-built. Weighing about 43 lbs, it is very heavy for a SACD/DVD-A player.

Conclucion: the Denon 5910CI is an amazingly built SACD/DVD-A/DVD-V/CD player that has outstanding Picture and Sound quality.
