Tech Talk
Dolby Digital provides up to 5.1 channels of surround sound from the following speakers: front left, front right, center, surround left, surround right, and an additional channel exclusively reserved for additional deep bass sound effects. Dolby DigitalÕs main channels can all contain full range sound information, from the lowest bass, up to the highest frequencies--22 kHz. 5.0 out of 5 stars Sleek and seamless integration, October 2, 2005
By
This review is from: Denon DVD1720DVD Home Theater DVD Player (Electronics)
Our trusty Toshiba DVD player died after 5 years of intense use, and we chose the Denon 1720DVD to add to our already existing Denon sound system. We couldn't have made a better choice. It was a snap setting it up, programming the existing remotes, and putting it all together. The video quality is superb, and the sound is even better! We show movies on a large-screen format Toshiba, and the picture quality is nothing less than high-definition.

If you're looking for a superbly priced, reliable, high-quality machine, look no further!

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive!!!, May 13, 2006
This review is from: Denon DVD1720DVD Home Theater DVD Player (Electronics)
This dvd player is excellent. I bought it for $129 at J and R in New York City and I could not be happier. I had a previous JVC dvd player which I gave to my son. I bought the JVC two years ago for $79, and it gave me quite good service for those two years. The only problems I had with it was that it once frozed on me when I attempted to play a dvd, and the picture sometimes showed artifacts on some dvds. These artifacts were minor, but they were present in some instances.
I decided to buy this Denon because the company is well known for making quality and sometimes quite expensive audio components. However, as I mentioned previously, I payed only $129 for this player. Some people might think this is too much, especially when one can buy dvd players at your popular electronic stores for less than $70. However, these people should be mindful of what they buy because you do get what you pay for!!! I also originally thought that a few differences in dollars in the cost of dvd players would not make a difference in terms of the quality of the products. Boy was I wrong!!!This Denon dvd player is far superior to any other dvd I have ever owned. It is superior to my previous JVC player in terms of both picture and sound!! The picture is clear and makes it possible to see some details which were not present using the JVC. The most impressive quality of this dvd player is the sound. The sound is much much better than the JVC in terms of frequency response, clarity, and just the ability to enjoy the full spectrum of the music.
I would definately recommend this player to all those who are looking for a quality dvd player which is inexpensive, and shows beautiful videos with a rich sound.

4.0 out of 5 stars DENON DVD1720, June 20, 2006
By
This review is from: Denon DVD1720DVD Home Theater DVD Player (Electronics)
Pros:

-VERY responsive
-Easy to use
-Simple setup

Cons:

-Bad remote layout
-Confusing on/off light
-No time display

I really like this DVD player, but am not impressed by the following. The remote layout is very strange compared to other brands. The on/off light on the unit is either red or green at all times making the home theater looking like fireworks. There is no time display on the unit.
