4.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work....yet
Spent hours hooking this up and trying different settings on my Denon AVR-1707 receiver, but it just does not work....UPDATE....June 25, called Mr. Denon and all is well with the world!. Had to hold down a button on the remote and unplug the dock control wire, which I guess is not used on my receiver....but it does work now

3.0 out of 5 stars Connectivity problems using 4th Generation IPod touch
Like FL, I spent hours trying to get my new ASD-51N connectivity established with my new AVR-791 receiver using a new 4th Generation IPod Touch (8 GB). I tried everything, including pressing the "Reset" button located in the bottom of the dock. I thought I might have to buy a separate "Remote Control" cable (not supplied by Denon) to make it work, but that didn't make...

This review is from: Denon Networking Client Dock for iPod (Electronics)
Like FL, I spent hours trying to get my new ASD-51N connectivity established with my new AVR-791 receiver using a new 4th Generation IPod Touch (8 GB). I tried everything, including pressing the "Reset" button located in the bottom of the dock. I thought I might have to buy a separate "Remote Control" cable (not supplied by Denon) to make it work, but that didn't make sense so I didn't. No matter what I did there was never a GUI display on the TV screen, only the word "DENON". When I called the customer support line at Denon I was told there is no guarantee that the newest IPods will connect, however he had me do some diagnostic stuff and talked me through some steps. After about 10 minutes of plugging and unplugging things I saw the GUI screen for the first time and it works. The secret seems to be to disconnect the "Dock Control" cable entirely, make sure the IPod is not in the Dock and then try using that reset button. (You'll hear a click.) Since I also had an Ethernet cable plugged in to the Dock, the first GUI screen I saw was concerning the Ethernet. The Denon guy had me unplug the Ethernet cable and then find the IPod Music menu on the GUI screen. Once I got to that point the music played using my receiver remote. Subsequent to the call I plugged the Ethernet cable back in and that works, too. UPDATE: Although everything was working fine, when I removed the IPod and re-inserted it I got the same NO CONNECTION problem I had before. I called Denon again (201-762-6665) and asked what I could do to get it working again. After trying a few things, they said it could be a defective Dock or a defect in the receiver. SECOND UPDATE: Rather than return it, I tried re-connecting the IPod to the dock (several times) combined with re-attaching the Dock Control cable. This seemed to do the trick: not only is the IPod communicating with the receiver (as it was before), but I can remove or re-insert it without breaking the connection. During this session I got a notice about a "firmware update" which I downloaded. The download process is weird because it turns off the "on" light on the dock making you think something is wrong, but it worked. I've raised the rating to 3 stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fiddling required to get it to work., January 7, 2011

I no longer use this to connect my iphone 3GS to my stereo. As a sidenote: I have installed the latest firmware from Denon. In order to get the dock to work when I use any audio app on my phone, I have to "trick" the dock by playing music through the ipod part of the device before it will play audio from Pandora or my iHeart radio app.

However, the connectivity between the iPhone and the new Apple TV is amazing! The wifi connectivity allows me to control the music without docking it, wirelessly! It does everything this dock does and more. I imaging an iPod touch will have the same result.

I only see benefit from using this if I want to play something from my older iPod that doesnt have wifi.
