Product Description

As a Registered Dental Hygienist, this is the same model night guard I wear and recommend to my patients! Excessive grinding and clenching of the teeth can be extremely damaging. Premature failure of dental restorations, breakage of teeth and gum line recession are common problems associated with the grinding/clenching habit known as bruxism. In our dental practice we make custom fitted guards that sell for hundreds of dollars but we offer these as an alternative when cost is a concern. After trying dozens of OTC (over the counter) mouth guard models these have proven to be the best fitting most comfortable day/night brux/clench/grind guard. These will double as a sports mouth guard but are intended to be used as a protective device for people who grind and clench their teeth and are wanting a better more comfortable fit than a sports mouth guard can offer.

I first purchased "The Doctor's Night Guard" at my local drugstore, for around $20.00. Not a bad price, but the guard felt like a hockey puck in my mouth, it was so huge and clunky. And I bought the smallest size! Plus it fell out of my mouth every night (and I never knew when) so it didn't seem worth keeping when it didn't even stay put.

I came across this guard and decided to try it because the reviews were so good. I have to say I am extremely pleased with not only the price, but the customer service was good (very good communication and fast shipping) and most importantly, the guard is SMALL but still does the job and stays put all night. My only other option was to drop $500 at my dentist for a custom one, but I think this is a much better deal!

I've been using night guards for over 20 years, but this is the first time I've tried an off-the-shelf variety. I wasn't sure how they could compare to the expensive custom-fitted ones from the dentist -- but I've been wearing through the expensive ones way too fast lately!

The directions are very clear, which is nice. I've gone through this process to make mouthguards with my children for martial arts sparring, so I had a general idea how it worked. But it was nice to have such precise instructions. It comes with two guards, which don't seem all that different at first glance, but the larger one is more massive -- when you boil them, they keep their shape in the pot, but they get very soft and kind of sticky. So when you bite down on them, they can almost completely change their shape. The larger one thus has more plastic, or whatever, for forming a guard for a larger mouth/larger teeth (I used the small one). The nice thing about the forming process is that this stuff doesn't have that gelled-kerosene-like flavor of the molds the dentists use!

According to the instructions, you can re-boil the guard a couple of times without damage, so if you don't get it right the first time it's OK. Even so, my final product isn't as pretty as the custom ones, but I figure that even if I buy a couple of these a year, I'll come out ahead.

And I know, from many years of experience, that I'll sleep a LOT better with a guard in place. If you have grinding issues, it's worth a try! Do be sure you know what you are doing though, check with your doctor if you are concerned about TMJ (temporo-mandibular joint problems -- pain around your ears or your temples, for example -- this will prevent further wear and tear but not treat damage that has already occurred).

I had a $300 custom night guard from my dentist which was hard plastic and not very comfortable due to saliva collecting in the guard behind my front teeth. I tried this inexpensive guard and was able to use the smaller size which is effective even though it doesn't cover all the way to the back teeth. Still it is snug and effective in keeping my teeth apart and it is soft and comfortable. Try this and try the smaller size first. I thought it may be too small for me but I was wrong and the smaller size is definitely more comfortable.

For years I have suffered from migraines, inner ear infections, etc. I have been to countless doctors and even had an MRI, but couldn't get a diagnosis that made sense.
I was in for my regular dental checkup (new dentist) and she diagnosed me with TMJ. It can cause all of the above problems I've been having.
Well, my dentist wanted me to be fitted for a night guard that would prevent my teeth clenching at night. It was priced at $480!!!!! I don't have insurance.
Well, that night I went on Amazon and found this product. For less than $20!!!
I've been using it for several weeks now. I can't believe the change it has made in my life. No headaches so far, no more jaw pain, and my ear is clearing up.
THANK YOU THANK YOU for making a product that people can easily afford!!!!!
I would recommend that people try this night guard before spending big bucks on the custom ones.

Prior to buying this product, I spent $400 at the dentist for an acrylic night guard. I wore it out in less than two years, and was facing buying another. This product, on the other hand, is far less expensive, much more comfortable, performs just as advertised, and doesn't even have the worrisome off-taste of a new acrylic appliance. It is so affordable that I could wear it out frequently, but that hasn't happened yet.

This mouth guard is better than any other drug store ones. BUT if the small size is the one for you, you can buy one a bit thinner that works really well in the sports section of walmart for 97 cents! It works great if thinner is what you are looking for.

I gave this guard 1 star since it is not universal and there is an excessive amount of material making it way too thick. I was able to get it in my mouth but it made my lips protrude in an awkward, uncomfortable way. I bought this because of the positive reviews but neither size fit so I'm back where I started minus $20. I definitely would not recommend this to a friend.

I have been using this product for about four years. I finally decided to review the product because, it's such a great value that I need to share it with others who suffer from bruxism. I didn't start using the Dental Hygiene preferred Complete Day/Night Mouth Guard Kit. No. Foolishly I had my dentist custom fit me for a night guard. Three things about a professionally fit/made night-guard from your dentist. 1. They are often made of a hard plastic (which seems to be just to protect from enamel on enamel wear, there is little cushion), 2. They are expensive mine was 140 dollars (this wouldn't be bad if this was a long-term investmenet, see point three) 3. I chewed threw this night guard in 4 months. I was not going to spend in excess of 400 dollars a year for dental mouth guards.

I shopped around and found this one. At first it was a big change because the one the dentist made for me was so small and hardened plastic, while this one is large and somewhat rubbery. I decided to try this one because of some positive reviews and the cost. These are a little different to use because you can feel them in your mouth. And as with any larger mouth guard (I use the blue) it's a bit difficult to close your mouth, so you will have dry mouth in the morning (this wasn't a problem for me because I mouth-breathe often). I usually change these every six months (it could go longer usually but it's nice to get a new fit because they tend to get loose a little after six months of grinding). I keep it clean primarily by brushing and occasionally using an effervescent. I can speak to the effectiveness because I haven't chipped anymore teeth and my dentist has not noticed any deterioration of my enamel.

Great product. I highly recommend.
