Perhaps the Best Dental Emergency Kit Available - Dentist Opinion,
By
This review is from: Dentek Dental First Aid Kit - 1 Ea (Health and Beauty)
This kit contains the following items: Temparin (a Zinc-Oxide temporary putty), toothache Medication (Eugenol), and a container for an avulsed tooth or crown. The kit has virtually everything you need to address most non-emergency dental mishaps. (An emergency dental condition is one where there is throbbing pain, infection, and/or swelling - these conditions need a dental professional!).
To replace a lost filling or to temporarily fill a cavity hole, rinse out the area with water and then dry as much as possible with the supplied cotton tips. The cavity must be dry for the material to adapt to the cavity. Using the applicator, place enough Temporin material in the hole to fill it and have some excess. Then, using a wet finger (use water to wet the finger first so the material will not adhere to the finger), pack in the material and remove excess. Temporin has NO adhesive qualities, so unless the hole in the tooth has undercuts, the Temporin will eventually fall out. Remember, this is a temporary (think days - perhaps a week). The same material can be used to secure a lost crown as well. Dry everything (crown and tooth) well and then apply the Temporin to the inside of the crown, seat, and bite together until the bite feels normal. Note: if the crown has a portion of the tooth still inside it, or a post sticking out of it, the Temporin will not hold very long, if at all. Finally, the kit has a small container to place an avulsed tooth into. Place some saliva or milk in the container (enough to cover the tooth), and immediately bring tooth and patient to a dentist for reimplantation. If possible, place the container in a plastic bag with ice around it. Do not in any circumstance try to clean the tooth or scrape the root! Leave it alone. In order for a successful reimplantation to occur, it is best to have the tooth reimplanted within 2 hours. If this is not possible due to distance or inaccessiblity, rinse the tooth of debris with water or milk, and then orient the tooth and implant it yourself. (This will likely hurt - push it in and bite down on it with sufficient force to seat it). Then get to a dentist ASAP for splinting of the tooth. The kit also contains a vial of Eugenol, an obtundant, which lessens tooth pain. It can be applied directly to the tooth area exposed, or a drop or two can be mixed into the Temporin before it is packed in the cavity hole. This kit is not a "cure-all" for dental mishaps, in fact, no kit exists on the market. It is however, a complete package of dental materials to treat MINOR dental mishaps. Don't expect anything more than a temporary fix. konedog DDS

This stuff works. That all that needs to be said. I keep on at the house all the time. Good buy for price but would like to see more for what I use. Don't need a container to keep a crown in.

Alot of reviews i've read say this product is not worth the money and doesnt work at all!! I say do not listen to them, this product really does work, if you follow the instructions and make sure there is no moisture in the tooth then it will bond perfectly. I find using the swab to dry the cavitiy may not be enough to dry the tooth so i bite down on some cotton wool to really make sure the area is dry. Its a hassle free application I applied the filling in under 2 minutes, 4 days later its still there. i hope it lasts a couple of weeks as im doing a ski season in the french alps and there is a lack of dentists, great product for travelling.

This is the best lost filling material that I have tried, but you need to employ a few tricks to get the best results. Like it says, you should wash the area out with water, I use mouthwash to really kill any germs that may be in there. Then I use a Q-Tip and dry the lost filling area as much as possible. Then using the spatula I use a very small amount, like the size of a pencil tip, and knead it between my fingers for about 30 seconds. Then I pack it into the lost filling area and use the spatula to really pack it into the area. Make sure you only use it directly on the affected area, letting it squish in between teeth or onto the next one weakens the seal. Then take another Q-Tip and run it under hot water and then press onto the filling material. You really should not eat on it for several hours, I find it easiest to apply right before I go to bed so that it has time to seal all night. Using these tips the filling material will last me a couple of weeks, and takes care of any sensitivity from the tooth. I haven't had the need to use the other items in the kit, but the lost filling material alone is worth buying the kit.
