This product is a Zinc-Oxide/Eugenol putty that can be placed in a missing filling or a cavity. Zinc oxide forms the putty and the eugenol is the ingredient that reduces inflammation in the nerve of the tooth. It is the same formula used by dentists to bring temporary relief of tooth pain. Instructions are included in the kit for use. Briefly, the tooth area to be treated is dried with cotton, then the putty is placed and gently tamped into place with a wet cotton pellet. The temporary will then set up to a harder consistency within 20 minutes. The product does not "bond" to the tooth, so it may fall out if there are no undercuts to hold it in.

Please note that this product is a temporary, which implies further assessment and treatment by a dental professional. Good for temporary fixes only. A product like this is especially handy when going on a (remote) vacation where professional dental services are difficult to obtain.

I purchased Dentemp Maximum Strength Temporary filling mix as an addition to my first aid kit for long trips where I will not have raeady access to a dentist. I cannot comment yet on how well the product actually works so I have provided only a three star rating. This product is for temporary use in an emergency until you can get to a dentist. I plant to consult my dentist when rounding out the dental portion of my first aid kit.
