Dr. Gum and his colleagues have devised the next generation in medical dental simulators, a nuclear powered human-like droid or ‘dentinator’ to assist in clinical procedures. Five top students are tweaking their dentinators including a few promising physicians who narrowly escape a war torn region in Africa to attend the meeting. Several international entries are included in the upcoming scientific conference in Las Vegas. Halfway around the globe, a Soviet nuclear and biochemical facility is deliberately infiltrated by a group of insurgents. They manage to steal enough material to procure several deadly dirty bombs. They intend to deliver their ‘science project’ in a cleverly concealed disguised form to stump the tight security services present at the scientific meeting. The carefully orchestrated operation takes the artifacts around the globe. Dr. Gum and a few of his colleagues discover a colleague in the medical dental curriculum has disappeared. The computer records indicate the student never existed. Is it part of a premeditated plot? A deadly conspiracy?

About the Author
Bernie Unrau a dentist and doctor by training, stumbled across a four minute video back in 1989, an interview with the prolific Robin Cook, a physician by training. Cook's mastery of the medical thriller inspired Unrau to embark on a 2nd career. The central character in Unrau's novels, Dr Gum, is part bumbling lieutenant Columbo, part deductive Sherlock Holmes, part Dr. Ryan from Tom Clancy's novels, and part curious Indiana Jones. Unrau brings some of his years as a dentist, lecturer, and inventor to light by engaging in espionage, elucidating an enigma, disclosing a dastardly or diabolical scheme, or dreaming up a formidable frightening future. Unrau currently resides in Calgary, Alberta.
