Charles Dickens' classic holiday tale comes to life in the "A Christmas Carol" village series by Department 56. And what would the story--or the miniature town--be without Ebenezer Scrooge? The old miser's hand-painted ceramic house is sure to draw lots of curiosity with its realistically detailed stone and wood exterior that's falling into disrepair and its big, illuminated windows. Peek inside the upstairs windows to see an animated scene featuring the three Christmas Carol ghosts dancing around Scrooge himself. The house measures 10 inches by 10-1/4 inches by 8-1/4 inches and includes an adaptor cord. It is packaged in a festive Dickens Village box for storing or gifting. --Kara Karll

I love all the details of this collection -- this was no different in terms of the structure but the lighting inside for the ghosts is a bright LED light -- good for special effect look but not great if you want a historic looking antique candlelite style village. Great piece if you are ok with the lighting. I returned mine.

I really like all the Department 56 Dicken's collection. I just purchased the Scrooge House a few days ago. I read the reviews about the LED light prior to purchasing, but ordered anyway. I didn't care for the look of the light either when I received the house, so I modified it.
*** How to Modify ***
There is a round plastic housing that holds the light and the ghosts that rotate around Scrooge. There are no screws at the bottom of the housing . You need to carefully run a flat head screw driver around the plastic housing. This will dislodge some glue that would not allow me to get my screw drive in to pry the housing out. You need to slowly take the flathead screw driver until the housing starts to separate from the glue holding it in place. At this point you can carefully slide out the whole mechanism, which also includes the post holding the light. I just popped a cap from an old Christmas light set over the LED to give it a green glow. It is also more muted, than the exposed LED. I really like the look. You can probably get an amber cover as well, if you want it to match your other houses.
*** Conclusion ***
If you collect the other Dicken's houses, your set would be incomplete without this house.

I bought this village piece to replace the one I had that our cats knocked off the display table back in 1998. I'm not sure that it's 100% the same as my old one but it's still a perfect fit in our display and I haven't had any problems with it (typical of all our Dicken's Village pieces).

This is a beautifully rendered building in the classic Dickens village style. I have only one complaint about this item. Because it attempts to portray the visitation of the three ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Future, Christmas Present, it does so in a large room on the second floor. The problem is the use of bright white light to provide a sense of the supernatural to the home. This bright white light was offensive to my eyes. With the rest of the entire village lit in a rather subdued amber sort of lighting more in keeping with the lighting of the period, the bright white light simply overwhelmed the entire display with its garishness. While I liked the building itself, I sent the item back because it just didn't look right when displayed with all the other Dickens Village structures.

I received this piece from our son to add to the unintended collection which had begun with the first North Pole piece I purchased years before. It is now a ritual...one surprise piece from our son each Christmas :-)

Ebenezer Scrooge's House is one of my very favorite pieces. It is a a fascinating piece in that it is not only well lighted downstairs...but to my delight was eerily lighted upstairs, revealing the Ghosts of Past, Present and Future dancing around old Ebenezer, who was now surrounded by the three, unable to escape having to take a good look at his life. It depicts this portion of the story perfectly. While a couple of the reviewers found the "ghostly" light either too bright or too blueish compared to their other lighted pieces, I marveled that the piece incorporated the flavor of what it was supposed to reflect...the Ghostly lighting depicts ghosts.

Like all the pieces I have, this one is very well made and incorporates a lot of attention to detail. I am eclectic and enjoy several different pieces, not just from the Dickens Village. I very much like this particular piece and would buy it for myself or give as a gift, and find it to be an excellent part of the Dickens Village selection.

les détails ne sont pas très bien travaillés - scène animée dans la maison mais on voit au travers des fenêtres les fils et la mécanique..dommage!
* Details are not very good - scene livened up in the house but we see through windows the threads and the mechanics !

Bought as a gift for my wife and she loves it. I, on the other hand, am bugged by the sterile white led lighting (at least that's what it loos like to me) that lights the interior. It seems ridiculous to have the ghosts of Christmas P/P/F cavorting in 21st century laboratory lighting. If I can find a rewire kit with a more mellow light I will gladly change the lighting out and then I would be 100% happy with Scrooge's house.
