Editorial Reviews

When four lads got together in 1980 sharing a love of the synthesiser sounds then just gaining ground, they could barely have envisaged the kind of impact they would have on the world music scene. Today Depeche Mode remain the most successful electronic group ever, and have themselves influenced a huge array of artists - stand up Marilyn Manson, NIN, Pet Shop Boys, Linkin Park & the creators of thousands of dance and techno records. This 2DVD set celebrates the astonishing music and career of Depeche Mode by way of a stunning documentary film in which their extraordinary story is told in depth. Featuring an array of performance and studio footage, archive interviews with members past and present, and contributions from those who know the group best - including Gary Numan, Thomas Dolby & OMD's Andy McCluskey. Throw into the mix some of the most outstanding music from the last three decades and the program will prove a joy for the millions of Depeche Mode fans across the globe

If you know nothing about Depeche Mode or the electronic music scene throughout the decades, this is a good documentary. If you already love DM and don't need random other people to tell you how great they are, stay away from this DVD. There are lots of interviews, but none with the band themselves. They only play snippets of a handful of videos - and they are all the usual suspects. There was some video of them performing but mostly we got still photographs of them through the years. I'd rather see them walking and talking, rather than posing for the cover of a teen magazine. Overall, not impressed. Buy the 101 DVD for a real documentary about the band.

A must see for a true Depeche Mode fan! Contains great information on the band and their ups and downs over the first 30 years. The documentary goes deep to tell the story of Depeche Mode by interviewing band members as well as other artists from the early days of the synth-pop alternative movement who knew, or were influenced by Depeche Mode.

I really enjoyed this double disc set. Reviews seem to be very mixed here, with some enjoying it and others not so much, but overall it really does tell the story of Depeche Mode very well and the interviews are really good. I guess it depends on what you like, but as a fan of Documentaries I thought this was one of the best music style ones I've seen for a while and I'm a big Depeche fan. Good value for money too, with 2 discs and very lavish packaging.

This a really good overview of Mode across 2 discs - lots of live footage of the group and interviews galore. Best docu on the lads i've ever seen - going right back to the beginning and bringing the story completely up to date.
