Still--these are good ones to use EXCEPT at night, when you might want to get yourself or your loved one these:
Depend Fitted Maximum Protection Briefs (Formerly Overnite) Size Small/Medium Pk/20 .
Those Maximum Protection briefs really do the trick. My father can go all night without a single leak, and it makes it far, far easier to do linens and the like the next morning when he uses those. They're more expensive, but worth it for night-time use.
I have been using Depend brand underwear for a long time now. I broke my back in the summer of 2001 and with physical therapy was able to regain the ability to walk. I still had trouble with incontinence so I used Depend's regular pull-up underwear for quite some time. However, the specter of Spinal Arteriovenous Malformation (http://spinalavminfo.com/) reared its ugly head in July of 2011. Although I was diagnosed fairly quickly, the corrective surgery wasn't performed in time and I lost the use of my legs. This made it very difficult to change my underwear if I had to while using the bathroom. I then discovered Depend's Adjustable Underwear. They provide the same level of protection that you come to expect from Depend, but what makes this version of their underwear so special is that you don't have to "pull up" in order to wear them. While they can be used like standard briefs, you can, if you choose to, rip them apart at the perforated line near the hips and hold them together with the built in hook and loop tabs. It's a fairly simple matter to take them off while sitting on the toilet and the same goes for putting on a new pair. While you still have to inch them up the rest of the way after attaching the Velcro-like tabs, that is definitely preferable to having to bend down, remove your pants and get your feet into each hole before pulling them up. The same goes for lying in bed. There have been times where, for whatever reason, I was just too weak or sleepy to take off my sweat pants if I had been using standard underwear. With the adjustable, I can just do the "roll from side to side" method of putting them on.Read more ›
The ONLY way to remove them without taking off your pants and/or shoes is to rip apart the sealed seams. Once you've done that you're unable to close the diaper because the Velcro tabs are placed IN FRONT of the seams, not behind them as shown on the package, so you end up with a ripped seam and no way to re-close the diaper. The only purpose the four Velcro tabs serves is to adjust the fit of the diaper; they in no way allow for putting on or taking off the diaper as tabs on baby diapers do.
So, essentially, what you're getting with this product is a sealed, one piece diaper with tabs that allow you to adjust the fit, and the only way to get them on is by stepping in and pulling them up [like panties], while you can remove them without pulling them down if you rip the seams apart.
I actually thought I had been sent the wrong product, but the packages I received look identical to the package's picture here on Amazon, so unless the wrong product somehow ended up in the wrong packages, these are not as described/pictured.
The product itself works well as far as its absorbency.
Despite ordering the smallest size available, they're very big on my tiny, elderly mother, but adjusting the tabs makes them usable.
I'm giving these 4 stars because they're not as described, otherwise they'd definitely get 5 stars because they work well.
