Very poor replacement for previous product, April 12, 2009
This review is from: Depend for Men Underwear, [Small/Medium], Maximum Absorbency, 18-Count Packages (Pack of 4) (Health and Beauty)
I purchased a package of these (both the women's and men's) when the genderless(?) product was no longer available. I supplement them with the Depends "boost" product to increase absorbency. I have been using Depends about 1 year for my husband who has Alzheimer's. Not only are these less absorbent (even with the boost product), they are also much rougher to the touch. Wouldn't you think that softness would be a priority for underwear!
I have replaced the Depends brand with Prevail which is soft and absorbent. According to the home health aide who assists us, this is the kind they use in the long term care facility where she works. I also found Tranqulity brand overnight product was very helpful in keeping my husband dry all night. No wet bedding or pjs in the morning.

These have been a huge help for my father, August 18, 2009
My 89 year-old father suffers from incontinence and we'd been looking for a solution. In heavy denial, he wasn't open to many products or even much discussion of the issue. We tried pads that he could insert in his underwear, but those required too much thought and preparation (and sometimes put them on the outside of his underwear!), resulting in them remaining in the closet where they couldn't do their job.
He likes these much better than the pads - which we referred to as his "shields"... He refers to these as his "underwear" and says they are very comfortable. We cannot tell he is wearing them - no crinkling or unsightly bulges. He seems like them and so do we as it is clear from the appearance of his pants that they are working quite well. We did forget to tell him they were disposable and were amused to find out he sent them into the cleaners!
Overall, an excellent product, highly recommended!

What good are these if they dont protect against leaks?, June 12, 2010
Most of the time, these are discarded without even being soiled. However, on three separate occasions when they were actually tested, they failed miserably. Perhaps they are less suited for bowel control than bladder control issues but they performed little better than standard underwear at containment. The problem seems to lie in design. Unlike diapers for babies, these arent equipped with elastic banding around the legs so spillage is inevitable. Also, they are scarcely better than wearing a large maxi pad because the sides and top are paper thin and porous...allowing fluid to escape. I've had enough and am switching to the Tranquility brand (Premium Overnights). It may be more expensive but at least its dependable. Nothing is worse than a product that doesnt perform as expected and once you've had to clean up a few times, you'll see what I mean.
