5.0 out of 5 stars Music that Makes you Fall in Love with Music
This is One of my all time favorite CDs, especially track number 6 "Agua". Everybody that I have played this song for tells me the same thing "Wow! What a powerful song". This song is about friends that have fallen in love, but because of life's circumstances can't be together and like the song says "Dejar que el Agua corra" ( let the water...

This song is about friends that have fallen in love, but because of life's circumstances can't be together and like the song says "Dejar que el Agua corra" ( let the water flow); it is so full of feelings. The whole CD is awsome. I own all of this groups CD's but this one is my favorite album. I recommend that you buy it so you too can enjoy quality music.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Follow-Up by an Excellent Artist, October 11, 2000
By
Chris Steude (Clemson, SC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Depende (Audio CD)
This is one of the best cds that Spain has ever produced, and an excellent follow-up to Jarabe de Palo's first CD, La Flaca. This CD is somewhat more melancholy in tone, with some extremely emotional and powerful songs. There are many more slow songs than on La Flaca, but these are broken up by several songs indicating an influence from Salsa and mainstream latin, evident in Pura Sangre and Plaza de las Palmeras. But it is the slower songs that pack the punch. Songs such as Agua, Toca mi Cancion, or Te Miro y Tiemblo convey powerful emotion that further express the brilliance of Jarabe de Palo's musical skill. The album includes an eclectic mixture of music, from the title track, Depende, which is a phenomenal tune, to a duet with Cuban Celia Cruz. The qualities of Jarabe de Palo's unique voice seem to form on the songs and become his own entirely with a beautiful style and emotion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful, Fun, and Lyrical with some Great Music, June 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Depende (Audio CD)
This album stands above "La Flaca" because of it's deeper study of profound emotions, ideas, and human sentiment on songs like "Depende", "Vivo en un Saco", "Agua", "Realidad o Sueño" (my personal favorite), and "Toca mi Canción" without getting preachy. But songs like "La Plaza de Las Palmas" and "Dueño Conmigo" are straight ahead Rock and Roll. I can see JdeP moving towards greatness with each album as Pau Donés (aka JdeP)develops himself as a songwriter and poet. I love this record and recommend it whether you speak Spanish like a pro or are just learning. AND YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS BAND LIVE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Group, Great Albumn, June 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Depende (Audio CD)
I bought this albumn and saw them in concert when I was studying in Sevilla, Spain. They're a great band and the ablumn is wonderful. The rhythms and words are all excellent. It's a must-have cd. Perdoname is the "best" song. Agua is wonderful too.

5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD BUT KEEP ON PUSHING IT., April 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Depende (Audio CD)
I have to say that though this record is far superior to the previous "La Flaca" ( there's more depth and variety to it and somehow it seems more crafted ) it feels to me like more of the same. Their strong point is their melodies, catchy but at the same time clever and different. Then the lead singer's voice is excelent, versatile and maleable to the extent that adds to an already magnificent tune a certain spin that leaves you open mouthed. It's really hard nowadays to find a group that sounds so different and has such an unique style. There's a danger though, which is inherent to groups like this. When you find your niche and you're good at it you might tend to play it safe and stay there. That would be a mistake. I just hope they can move forward and push it somewhere else before all their records start sounding the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars Si hay buenas segundas partes, March 31, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Depende (Audio CD)

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 chicos,los mejores musicos y compositores!!, August 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Depende (Audio CD)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Album of Jarabe De Palo, July 11, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Depende (Audio CD)

Although they have kept a pretty consistent quality and career, I most say that this is the best album...Or maybe I shouldn't say that until I listen to their last album!

A CD that has smart lyrics, and just enough humor to make your day but with a lot of feeling and simple subjects that turn into very interesting after understanding the complication of the simple message.

Beautiful sound, not too soft not annoying just the perfect balance.
