Editorial Reviews

The distance from Ricardo Villalobos' last field trip Th‚ au Harem d'ArchimŠde (PERL 043CD) in 2004 to the present epic album is a galaxy of electronic expression through sound, independent from time and space. It is said that funk is defined by the notes that are not being played. The space between the notes here is so vast, that funk becomes transformed into the spirit that creates unfathomable emotional adventure. The rules of dynamics between 0 and 1 shift the relation from reality to relaxation. Previously-unreleased, mixed, free-floating sessions are made out of natural, secret ingredients from the limbic system of astro-Aztecs. They evolve from rituals, ending in the release of the sinuous percussion ghost from the machine who breathes out a score for easy living, which sounds like a primordial soup aerosol of funky molecules and molluscs.

5.0 out of 5 stars more wonderful sonic genius from Villalobos January 6, 2014
Format:Audio CD
For those already on the amazing Ricardo Villalobos trip this is perhaps one of the all time best. For those new to this artist I find this album to an attractive and palatable entry point.

What you are about to hear is "minimal" tasteful electronic music with a fine production edge. Sometimes this edge takes us to places that are a challenge, and in this way I find listening to the album to be mood altering. One thing Ricardo consistently offers is space--an open feeling in the music that isn't the constant "wall of sound" so many producers become victim to. This is why I love the sub-genre of "minimal" electronic music--the air.

Sporadic, enchanting, hypnotic, takes you places.

4.0 out of 5 stars A logical evolution June 13, 2013
Format:Audio CD
My favorite moment on the Fabric 36 mix is "Andruic and Japan", one of the most fascinatingly surreal tracks to crawl out of Villalobos' primordial swamp of a catalog. I remember thinking "Wow, I wonder where he could take this?!", and he's answered just that question on this album -- it is a logical continuation of the inquisitive spirit of that mix. Best heard as a whole, prepare yourself for a fascinating exercise in sound design with techniques and frequencies rarely heard in electronic music nowadays.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect January 1, 2013

If you know RV music, you know what to expect. This album is a great example of his style. Music to be actively enjoyed, listened to, dance too? or have on in the house. Perfect.
