1.0 out of 5 stars Where's The Medical Proof?, May 1, 2001
By A Customer
The author reiterates much of what has already been documented in other books (Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy, DSM 1V-R) about depression (Typical signs & symptoms of depression, diagnostic criteria, etc.). However, she fails to support controversial forms of treatment (herbal remedies, etc.) with documented research by respected M.D.'s and psychologists who work with depressed patients. The author appears naive on the subject...states the reason for wt.gain in depression is unclear. How about less activity, eating more, & medication side effects?

5.0 out of 5 stars A Balanced Approach to Depression, October 21, 2001
By A Customer
Depression: What your Body's Trying to Tell You by Susan Skog presents a well-rounded approach to dealing with depression. I have struggled with depression for years and am always thrilled to come across a book that highlights proactive steps that I can take toward wellness. I particularly liked the information on spirituality, life purpose and the numerous treatment approaches that were covered. I also appreciated the easy to read, short chapter style that the book was written in. It helped me to get through the book without feeling overwhelmed. I would highly recommend this book to anyone seeking a more balanced approach to depression.

5.0 out of 5 stars QUALITY OF LIFE is determined by how you LIVE IN YOUR HEAD!, May 6, 2005

This is a wonderful and simply written book that tackles this issue in a kind manner. (Written with the kind and user-friendly tone of a health magazine rather than the usual cold and scientific or "you are a medical victim/patient" approach.) Chapter Titles help elaborate where books delves (and since Amazon did not provide this information for this book, I thought I would provide it to those interested in finally getting to the root of this age-old problem). This book is the BEST I HAVE READ ON THE TOPIC, BECAUSE IT REALLY GETS YOU TO UNDERSTAND OR CONCLUDE THAT THE PROBLEM NO LONGER HAS TO EXIST AND CAN COMPLETELY BE SOLVED BY NATURAL MEANS (rather than taking the pharmaceutical approach, largely recommended by the majority of the current, ill-informed, western medical establishment), provided you are willing to take the major steps and make the changes. Highly recommend for those who want a better life, because a happy life is so much lighter and easier and than the dark and difficult life!

Chapters Titles are as follows:
Chapter 1 - Understanding the Face of Depression
Chapter 2 - The Source of Our Discontent
Chapter 3 - The Chemistry of Depression
Chapter 4 - Valuing the Message of Depression
Chapter 5 - Tracing the Roots of Our Unrest
Chapter 6 - Expressing the Full Range of Emotions
Chapter 7 - Releasing Emotions Through Pen and Paint
Chapter 8 - Unearthing Buried Trama and Crisis
Chapter 9 - Banishing the Inner Critic
Chapter 10 - Strengthening Body and Health
Chapter 11 - Creating an Affirming, Balanced Lifestyle
Chapter 12 - Balancing with Sound and Music
Chapter 13 - Rediscovering the Power of Kinship
Chapter 14 - Exploring the Tonic of Exercise
Chapter 15 - Herbs and Homeopathy
Chapter 16 - Let There be light
Chapter 17 - Rediscovering the Power of Passion
Chapter 18 - Seeking Spiritual Sustenance
Chapter 19 - Embracing the Natural World
Chapter 20 - Service, Gratitude, and Cultivating Joy
Chapter 21 - Examining Foods and Moods
Chapter 22 - Food and Chemical Sensitivities and
The Conclusion.
