What You Need to Know About the Depression-Thyroid Connection

Thyroid and psychological health are often linked. If you develop a thyroid condition, you may also become depressed. This depression can lead to more problems with your thyroid which, in turn, can lead to further depression-a vicious cycle that is difficult to treat unless the problem is addressed on several levels.

Now you can determine whether depression you're feeling may be connected to a thyroid problem. The authors of this book, a medical doctor and a psychologist, guide you through the facts about thyroid disorders, what the thyroid hormone does, and how it functions in relation to your psychological well-being. You'll learn a number of diet and lifestyle changes you can combine with conventional medical treatment to help correct a thyroid condition. You'll also learn psychological strategies you can use to overcome the depression that can result from a thyroid condition-thought monitoring, stress reduction, relationship enhancement, and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, January 18, 2011

This review is from: Depression and Your Thyroid: What You Need to Know (Paperback)
Great book. I have suffered from depression my whole life(I'm 44). I've taken every type of depressant medication with no resolution.I've had my TSH level checked, but they were'normal'.But as the book suggested(there are several 'Steps'the authors give on Testing and Diagnosis) I took my armpit temperature before I got out of the bed in the morning, five days in a row my temps. always run well below 98.6(97.3avg.)they should run between 97.8-98.2 in the morning BEFORE you get out of bed and start moving around. This motivated me to find a doctor who knows about thyroid issues and is willing to prescribe if needed Natural Dessicated Thyroid and T3 as well as T4 Hormones. Depression runs in my family:my mom,my brother and myself. This book showed me how important thyroid hormones are and what their purpose is.The authors pointed me in the right direction. I highly recommend 'Depression & Your Thyroid:What You Need to Know'if you want to educate yourself about the relationship between Hypothyroidism and Depression.

5.0 out of 5 stars A handbook of understanding hypothyroidism and its effects on mental health, May 20, 2006
This review is from: Depression and Your Thyroid: What You Need to Know (Paperback)
Thyroid and psychology are often linked, with the condition of one influencing the other and often creating a circular path of deterioration: that's the message of DEPRESSION & YOUR THYROID: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW, which provides a handbook of understanding hypothyroidism and its effects on mental health. From causes of hypothyroidism - which are many and varied - to various treatments, including home remedies, DEPRESSION & YOUR THYROID is an important guide.
