3.0 out of 5 stars very poor sound quality June 30, 2009
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I'm always on the lookout for new music from old composers, especially good ones. I've always been greatly pleased and entertained with the music of Carl Millocker so I was glad to see there was another recording of a Millocker operetta. But my hopes were instantly dashed when I saw the recording label...Gala. The Gala recording label seems to revel in making or purchasing the lowest quality recordings of music anywhere. This recording is from 1980 so I thought it might have a chance but alas, I was disappointed.
Now the quality is not as bad as some of their recordings. You can make everything out on this but there is a very loud and constant noise through out the CD and it is definitely recorded live. I give it 3 stars because as far as bad recordings go this is not awful. It's like getting a decent bootleg movie where there are no arms waving in front of you and the camera never moves but you can still tell that it is definitely without a doubt a bootleg video.
As for the music contained it's wonderful as to be expected. All the charm of a Millocker operetta is present and from what I can tell the singers to a very good job. But I wish it wasn't because now I really want a good recording of this opera and though many a lost operetta is finding its way to CD lately I don't have a lot of confidence that this one will, at least not any time soon.
