This book is clearly written, superbly illustrated, and well organized. Even a mechanical klutz should be able to do most repairs on older (1970s, 1980s) derailleur bikes by following the clear instructions and illustrations.
Unfortunately, bike design has changed so much in the last 20 years or so, that it will be nearly useless for working on modern bikes. Things like index shifting, grip and trigger shifters, modern brake designs, "cassette" style freewheels and BBs are much more complicated and not covered at all in this book.
An updated version for the 21st century would be a great boon to amateur bike mechanics!
