5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent blades
The Derby blade (made, I believe, in Turkey) is not the sharpest blade out there but, in my mind, achieves the perfect balance between sharpness and smoothness: Sharp enough not to snag on tough bristles, but not so sharp as to make cuts and soreness inevitable. 100 of these will give you over a year of shaves - I find I can get at least five shaves out of a single blade...

5.0 out of 5 stars Goodbye Cartridge Blades, October 19, 2009

Take it from someone who has suffered through approximately 45 years of the daily ritual of shaving, these are the best double edged blades you can buy for the money. Do yourself a favor and ditch the super-overpriced and under-performing cartridge razor "systems". After 25 years, I decided to go back to wet shaving, the method my father, who was a barber, taught me when I was a teenager. Only this time, I invested in a good super badger shaving brush, a Merkur safety razor and a good quality shave cream like Taylor's of Old Bond Street. The Derby Extra double edge blades puts the finishing touch to this unbeatable combination for the closest and most comfortable shave around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blade quality seems descent, value is awesome., May 29, 2008
I mainly switched to DE shaving because of the price difference compared to upkeep for a Mach 3. Heh, well this is a good example. $18 for a year supply compared to $11 for a pack of 5 Mach 3 blades to last roughly a little over a month.. yeah.. The shave these give out is descent; much better though when compared to the Parasienne (or however it is spelled) blades I purchased at Wal-Mart. Oh, and just to put things into perspective, Mach 3 shaves are poor compared to these.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the money, December 24, 2008
I've only used the Merkur blades prior to purchasing these. The Derby Extra's are less than a third of the price, and I don't see or feel any difference. They last about the same, for me around four to five days. At this price, you can even change them twice as much and still be cheaper per blade than the Merkurs. Considering what I used to pay for Mach III Turbo's, these blades are are the best of both worlds - good quality and great price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Dang Fine Razor Blade.., November 6, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Any blade that can slash through the dense jungle that is my beard deserves a medal. This blade receives the Medal of Honor. The most comfortable, close and thorough shave ever. Shave with a more expensive blade, if you wish but you won't shave with better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glad I switched, October 25, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I own a Merkur Vision 2000 and the blades that came with it (Merkur) are okay, but they really tug at my face. I kept getting cut. They shave okay in certain places, but around my chin and under my nose, the blade jumps when it slides across my skin. I switched to Derby Extra and all of these issues stopped. I tossed my Merkur blades in the trash.

With the Derby Extras, I can barely feel the blade on my face. Then I look at the shaver after a pass, I can see a lot more whisker shavings in the soap. Nice to have a close shave without casualties.

Thank you for the blades.

5.0 out of 5 stars These sharp blades reduces razor burn, February 10, 2009
By
Mr. Fantastico (Seattle, WA United States) - See all my reviews
I have used these blades for over 2 weeks, shaving 5 days per week, and have gone through only 2 blades so far. Compared to the double edged store brand blades made by American Safety Razor Company (ie. Personna) these stay sharp over longer periods and each blade provides a consistently smooth shave.

I have also noticed less razor burn using the Derby blades. I always get skin irritation with the other brand because the blades are so dull, and I try to compensate with more strokes during shaving.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great dual-edge safety razor blades, December 15, 2008
These work very well in my Parker 91R. I like them better than the 7AM branded blades the razor originally came with. The Derby Extras feel sharper and give a closer shave with less effort. They cut hair very easily and stay sharp for at least 5 or 6 shaves without noticeable pulling or dullness.

Since they are sharp, care must be taken if switching from a different brand. They aren't Feather(tm) blade style sharp but still... they are much sharper than the dual-edge blades my local pharmacy and grocery stores carry. The 7AM blades are nice too but I have to rate the Derby Extras higher for feeling sharper initially and staying sharper after a few shaves.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for me., March 11, 2011

Anyone reading reviews for DE razor blades has probably come across a review in which someone claims that blade X is the greatest. They've also probably come across the reverse, where someone else claims that blade X is the worst blade made.

All else being equal, both reviews are likely to be correct. What it depends upon is how well blade X works for a specific individual. No two faces and beards are alike. If they were, there would be no need for so many brands of razor blades.

Given the 4+ star average that Derbys received here, my 2 star rating pretty much sums up my experience with Derby blades. I've tried them and they irritated my face and even drew a little blood. I'm not blaming the manufacturer for these problems, but Derbys simply don't work for me.

Some blades tend to "drag" a little after a few shaves but, on my face, these drag from the first shave and simply get worse. I've tried different shaving angles and 3 different razors and always got a horrible shave. Having to go back over the same areas 4 or 5 times is just not going to result in a comfortable shave and that's what I have to do with Derbys to get a close shave.

I've tried about a dozen brands of razor blades and only 3 brands (Merkur, Personna Red and Crystal Platinum) will find there way into my razor going forward.

Rather than not trying Derbys based on my opinion, I'd suggest buying a small quantity and finding out for yourself if they will work well on YOUR face. They very well could become your favorite blade but the will never become mine.

These Derby blades are very highly regarded on the shaving forums, and I have found that that is deserved. The price is a real good value for the quality of the blade.

There are many brands available, but I haven't found the need to change from Derby.
