Good...but a few things were wrong,

Okay, first I'd like to say that this was a good book and here is how it goes. Christina wants to race Star before the Derby, but Ashleigh says no, it will wear him out. She has a bunch of flash-backs to when Pride was overraced before and during the Triple Crown and she doesn't want that to happen to Star. Every other chapter focuses on Ash and her flashbacks. Anyway, Chris knows Star and knows he wants to race. Then she races Raven and was thinking about Star. She goes for a hole and it's too small and there is a crash. Melanie is furious because Raven is injured badly and might have to be put down. I think Mel acted rudely, but Chris should've paid more attention. To top it all off, Chris sees Parker with another girl, could it be his new girlfriend? So if you want to know if Raven recovers, if Mel forgives Chris, and if Star gets to race. Get this book, it is awesome. The only thing that bugged me is that Melanie has this big surprise that Image is going to race in the Derby. Well...uh...it said in book #51 that Image was racing in the Derby, so what's the giant surprise? Big Mistake!!!! I believe it was in the book number #51 that Ian said to Christina "Do you think you can arrange a three-way dead heat {in the Derby}, between Star, IMAGE, and Gratis?" So why was Christina so surprised, why was Melanie suddenly all excited when apparently she already knew!!! Ahhhhhh! Anyway, it was a good book that really went back to what Thoroughbred si all about. With going back to Pride and all and mentioning some of the older horses. I recomend this book to Thoroughbred readers to get it and read it, even with the mistake that really was the ending of the book, but I will not give away anymore. Hope this review was helpful to you.

Good book, but slightly dissapointing for me.,

I thought that the author did a good job in this book keeping you interested, and bringing up past horses and experiences. I'm glad that Glory was for once mentioned in this book, they never talk about him. He was a very valuable racehorse, along with all the othe studs that belong to Whitebrook, but they only ever mention Pride, Jazzman, Terminator etc... I'd like to see a Glory foal sometime. I was a little dissapointed that the actual Derby race wasn't in this book. I had been waiting for 2 months, and no Derby. Now I'll have to wait another 2 or 3 months for the next one. Oh well... I was really taken aback when Christina was all surprised and jealous when Parker supposedly had a new girlfriend. HELLO!! What ever happened to Aaron from California in Thorughbred #51 (Distance Runner). Aaron and Christina really hit it off, they went to Disney world (or some theme park in California), Aaron helped Christina with Star, and Christina helped Aaron to be recognized by some well-known racehorse people. That was one of my favorite TB books. Overall I liked this book, but I'd like to see what happens in the Derby and to see Aaron to return somehow in a future book. And I really hope they don't have a dead heat between 2 or more horses in the Derby, or in any of the Tripple Crown Jewels.

The book is ok but does have mistakes in it,

Ok, well i just got the new Thoroughbred book and to tell you the truth im losing interest in them cuz its the same old story everytime, and you know that in then end Melanie or Christina will get what they want. But in this book, i like how is focuses on Ashleigh alot and goes back to flashbacks. Ive been re-reading the thoroughbred series and am at the point where Pride is racing in the Triple Crown. When i started to read this book i couldnt help compare the 2 and the facts dont match up. In this book it makes it seem that Sam is kinda bratty/snobby, and Clay seems alot like Brad, and Ashleigh seems to want to race more than care about Pride. That doenst match up with the older book, and clearing up the girls other review below, they werent gonna race Image because she couldnt behave, so they decided not to but now they are after the 2nd place finish. What i think would help the series is if they had ONE author write them, not 3 or 4. It confuses me at times because im getting 2 stories for one fact...im gonna finish this book and see if it ends good or not, i just want to see who wins the Kentucky Derby so I have to keep reading the series.

so very wrong,

Everything about this book was wrong. For instance, the flashbacks were terribly done and obviously not what really happened. The author would have us believe that Ashleigh was promoting not giving Pride a break. Never was that the case. On top of that, what sort of crazy time line is going on here? Derby Fever, as they say, takes place a month before the Kentucky Derby. Star just ran in the Santa Anita Derby, which is exactly a month away from the Kentucky Derby, and Chris wants to run Star again? What sense does that make? If this book was running on any sort of time line, Star would be still recovering from the race he just ran. He obviously wouldn't need to run again. On top of that, Raven's little injury was pretty pathetic. She manages to fall, tear every tendon in her leg, and not break a bone? And then she manages to recover in the space of a week? On top of that, Christina is completely insubordinate to her mother. No mother that I know of would allow the way Christina criticized Ashleigh. All this and I could still say more about how hideous this book was.Basically, this book was wasteful and pointless. It took us no where and had absolutely no plot at all. It was almost painful to read.

It's okay,

This book was ok but the author should read the other books before writing this one. When Ashleigh has flashbacks they are not the same as the other books when Pride is racing. Being a jockey is harder than the author describes it. It's not like you can get rides any time you want like Mel and Christina. The frist books in the series rocks though A Horse called Wonder. It's my favorite

ok, i really liked because Ashleigh was actually in it--like every other chapter it was from her point of view. I dont kno about other people, but she's my favorite charter of the TB series. Anywho...Chris wants to race Star but Ashleigh doesnt think she should. Then she lets her race Raven and..well...Mel gets mad b/c of something that happened....and then at the end Ashleigh has a surprise for Chris. i liked it...but only cuza Ashleigh...lol..no, really it was a good TB books

Sort of Great... Sort of Not,

Okay, I have mixed feelings about this book. This book was generally fun to read. It had some chapters written in Ashleigh's point of view so that readers can understand how she was really feeling. Also, you can really feel Christina's anger and frustration when Ashleigh doesn't let her race and when she messes up on Raven. I can promise you that it will paint a picture in your mind. I agree Lauren from Pennsylvania. She said it perfectly. If Mary Anderson had read the previous books, she could get the facts straight so readers wouldn't get bothered by something other than the truth.

Star and Chistina,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Derby Fever (Thoroughbred #53) (Paperback)
This was a really good book! But, Chis should not question her mom's skill! Her mom knows what's she's doing! It was really sad that Raven got hurt. But, in the end when Chis and Mel had thier "Derby prep race" it ended on a great note. I can't wait to see who wins the Kentucky Derby! GO STAR AND CHISTINA!!!
