Book Description

December 14, 1996 Architectural Monographs (London, England), No. 43. (Book 43)
Established in 1960, Derek Walker Associates has been involved in a wide range of projects including public and private housing, churches, educational buildings, hospitals, leisure and recreational facilities and shopping centres. Many of the buildings have won special awards and have achieved widespread recognition throughout the world. Derek Walker was the Chief Architect and Planner to the New City of Milton Keynes, UK, a development for 250,000 people. Based in London, with an office in Italy, Derek Walker Associates is closely linked with education in planning and architecture, carrying out seminars and lectures throughout the United States, Italy, Germany and the UK. Divided into five sections, this monograph analyzes the firm's designs for furniture and interiors through to landscape, infrastructure and urban design. It also includes the designs for "Wonderworld", a scheme in England which takes the American idea of theme parks and gives it an English angle. Essays by James Gowan, Peter Davey and Sir Norman Foster are also presented.
