I remember listening to this in elementary school and I still pull it out every now and then to remember what it was like when radio rap actually meant something. This album is starting to show its age and that is the reason for the four star rating but it still has some timeless classics on it that I will always listen to. Third bass will be remembered as one of the most influentual Hiphop groups of the 90s forget about Vanilla Ice and his two minutes of fame these cats had some true talent and have influenced countless B-boys and B-girls of this generation. Prince Paul produced several of the tracks on this disc and it is pretty much a skip free listen all the way through. Lyricly these guys were great and added a sense of humor into their music with their word play and use of skits. If you are looking for some old school Hiphop with some substance and some true talent and want to find that place in time when true MCs really shined this may just be your album

3rd Bass is long gone, but this album will be a keeper for years to come. Much like Public Enemy's "Fear of a Black Planet," Derelicts is filled with layers of hooks and true street rap beats. It also lacks the filler of some albums of it's day. (Even the 30 second tracks are hilarious and keep their freshness over time) The hit from this album "Pop Goes the Weasel," is probably the albums weakest point, due to the novelty of it's subject. The real standouts in a standout album include "Portrait of the artist as a Hood," and "Green Eggs and Swine." If you're down with old school and you don't own this album, you don't know what old school is...

Third Bass was at the top of the world back in 91. They transcended race and they came off as legit rappers. But for some reason, they didn't stay together and they only made two albums, this one and the cactus album from the year before. I know it's not popular to say this, but I liked Pop Goes the Weasel. I think they were just messin' with the Vanilla Man.

Just picked this up on CD after my old tape couldn't be found. Back in the day I was in 7th grade, so I didn't really pay attention to the producers. Checked the liner notes today...Prince Paul is the producer behind 5 of the masterpieces on this album, including the title track and Herbalz in your Mouth. It just solidifies his place in the Hip Hop Hall of Fame.

Oh yeah, this is about 3rd Bass...its a shame this is their second and final album. At the time they were one of the best groups around, right up to par with the Native Tongue Fam(DeLa,Tribe,BlackSheep) At all times hilarious, smart, and damn smooth. Just read the #3 on your telephone, thats all you need to know.

For those that don't know, 3rd Bass is the best white rap you've never heard. You've been exposed to The Beastie Boys and Eminem (and even Vanilla Ice), but unless you paid close attention during the Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch era, you probably missed 3rd Bass. That's a crying shame.

Outside the heavily played "Pop Goes the Weasel", not much of this trio's catalog reached the airwaves. This too, is a crying shame. Derelicts is jam-packed with great songs. The title track alone is worth the price of the disc. "Word to the 3rd", "Come In", "Herbalz In Your Mouth", and "No Static At All" remain favorites of mine a decade later, and the songs featuring guests stand out as well ("Ace in the Hole" with KMD, "Microphone Techniques" with Nice and Smooth, and "Kick 'Em in the Grill" with Chubb Rock).

The thing that makes this a true "album" is the skits. There is nothing better than a rap group with a good sense of humor, and 3rd Bass had one of the best. "Al'z A-B-Cee'z" and "Eye Jammie" are hysterical.

This album was a promising follow-up to the excellent Cactus Album; a good sign of things to come from 3rd Bass. Unfortunatley, This would prove to be the trio's last effort. Although MC Serch's first solo album was also quite good, it lacked the unique flow of the previous 3rd Bass records, leaving the listener waiting for Pete Nice to take the mic or Daddy Rich to sample everything under the sun. To this day I still wish there will be a reunion album in the near future. Somehow, I doubt it, but I'll always hope!

I bought this CD mainly because of one song and two skits. But when I got the CD I was pleasantly surprised at how many other great songs on the CD there were. This is definitely one of best CDs ive gotten in a while. I definitely recommend this CD to anyone who likes rap and would like to get a taste of something a little different with some great comedy skits.

I first got this album on a cassette tape and I played it out. It rocks. The beats are infectious and the rapping is awesome. Pete Nice and MC Search are like two peas in a pod. They work really well together and it shows in this thumping classics. I love when they bring in other rappers to groove with them. It is an amazing album, some of the language isn't so great but it is a lot better than the stuff that you see out here today. A definite score!

if there ever was such a thing, this is the true classic. no one really ever spun the other tracks on this LP, but they play off at least as brilliant and lyrically masterful as their big hit. most of all, this is a fun record, and that's why it persists even 9 years after its release.

As with many people here, my original 3rd Bass cassette got some definite wear. While I was young when this album came out, I continued to listen to and appreciate it more and more as I got older and to this day, still listen to it at least once a week. It's hard to deny how solid this album really is. The flow, the beats, the skits and humor still manage to stay fresh to this day, 20+ years later. Very little feels like filler. Derelicts starts off strong and keeps it going to the very end.

It is a shame this wasn't a bigger success and it's a shame 3rd Bass disbanded after this but real hip hop fans know how important this album was.
