I highly recommend this cream for all the appropriate uses including diaper rash in adults.

After it's rubbed in, it leaves a very slight stickiness to my skin, which is tolerable.

I am a Registered Nurse,a woman and a daughter care-giver of my Mother who has Alzheimer's disease. That said I want you to know I love this over the counter Barrier/skin Protectant Cream for those who are incontinent of urine and or feces. I am most protective of Mother's skin and do not want to have to deal with breakdown of skin leading to bed sores. This DermaSav Cream is the best I have used to prevent rash and protect her skin that is not prescription and terribly expensive. This cream is easy to apply and provides instant relief. The cream is unscented which I appreciate very much and it definitely meets the needs of adults who are incontinent or their care givers like I am. Anything to make the job a tiny bit easier is a blessing. My DermaSave Cream came from Amazon and you can get yours there as well...order today and see how much you like this.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This is a product I didn't even realize I needed. I've had a dribbly bladder for years, and I've just gotten used to it. It's not bad enough for adult diapers, or even Poise pads, but coupled with my menopausal flab, I'm always having to contend with dampness. I thought I'd found a solution when my doctor prescribed an anticholinergic—which worked—but I had terrible side effects and had to quit taking it. (I think intense fatigue was the main one. I'll take dribbles over nonfunctionality any day.)

Anyway, I've just been toughing it out, trying to stay as clean and dry as possible, using baby powder, trying to do Kegel exercises, etc., but nothing really helps much. I'm just always hyperaware of it, too, no matter what I'm doing. Also, when I wake up in the morning, I usually have some rawness, and it's just no fun.

So when I tried this DermaSav barrier cream and skin protectant, I thought "Duh, why didn't I think of this before?" It does what it says it'll do: provides a barrier to wetness, provides relief for skin irritation related to urinary incontinence. I love the calamine in the formulation, and also the "inactive" ingredients that anybody knowing anything about herbal medicine will recognize as anything but "inactive." The aloe vera alone is a wonderful balm.

The best thing about this formulation, for me, is that it gets my mind off of my problem. I really love it.

The ingredient list for this barrier cream is very reassuring, with several very effective moisture-resistant ingredients and soothing botanicals.

The smell is faint, fairly neutral, and slightly reminiscent of crayons, with no fishy or other off-putting odors. It has a slightly pinkish color and and is less viscous than A&D ointment, so it applies very easily without making a gloppy mess.

Even a thin layer will visibly repel water and it will seal in moisture, as well. It can be used on infant, children, or adults, and not only for protection from the irritating effects of incontinence, but to protect any dry or damaged skin from loss of moisture. It will prevent chafing and it eases the stinging in raw or irritated areas.

DermaSav Barrier Cream and Skin Protectant, 4 Ounce

Although this product is targeted to people with incontinence-associated dermatitis it is a good salve to use for most any type of external contact dermatitis. My doctor recommended a product with Zinc Oxide and that’s exactly what DermaSav Barrier Cream is: Zinc Oxide plus Calamine.

The Product description claims this is an adult strength formula and not a repackaged baby product. It has a high percentage of Zinc Oxide (18%) and I found it set up a water barrier that lasted most of the day. I have a brother who also suffers from this condition and being a plumber - that water barrier protection sells itself. I immediately called him and recommended he buy himself a tube.

The cream itself is formulated with natural botanicals: Aloe Vera, Lemongrass, Coriander and Chamomile. It is odorless and applies smoothly and without clumping. To use DermaSav as an incontinence related barrier the directions say to “Use your fingers to apply a thick even layer. Apply to all areas that may come in contact with urine or stool to help protect from future irritation”.

This packaged-for-adults barrier cream is recommended for use to alleviate tenderness in the genital area. However, one may have thin-skinned, or raw areas in other parts, too--behind knees, underarms, etc., that left to themselves can lead to secondary infections, yeasts and the like. Hence, DermaSav may have applications besides the most obvious.
Compared to a product by another company for the same purpose, DermaSav has 18% zinc oxide, instead of 11%--a plus in my opinion. Compared to another famous diaper paste, DermaSav is pale pink and creamy, instead of pasty mud-colored--another plus. The pale pink color comes from the 1% calamine, and the freshly opened container did faintly smell of calomine--however, the odor quickly dissipated and the product is odorless in use. Because it is a water barrier, after application one has to really wash hands with soap or a wet-wipe to get it off--but that is okay: that means it is doing its job someplace else.
The inert ingredients are primarily aloe and beeswax, two famously pure and mild emollients.
