Book Description

December 18, 1986
This pocket atlas is intended for all medical and paramedical staff who care for black patients. It describes the clinical signs of skin diseases in black patients, which are significantly different from the classicl text-book descriptions based on white patients. More tha 200 superb color photographs with clear, concise legends pointing out the key points of each, make this guide an easily accessible aid to diagnosis and prevention. One chapter is devoted to symptoms in black skin, comparing its histological appearance with that of white skin. The pathological chapters cover a large number of dermatological conditions, including eczema, impetigo, lichen planus, psoriasis and also skin abnormalities in viral infections (e.g. measles) and systemic disorders (e.g. collagen diseases, sarcoidosis). A large section is devoted to leprosy and its lesions, benign and malignant skin tumours, and Kaposi's sarcoma.
