Derm Book, November 12, 2008
This review is from: Dermatology DDxDeck, 1e (Cards)
This is a great book because it has great info and pictures, but it is consolidated into a quick reference. When I am seeing pts in the clinic I don't want a 12 page description of a condition; rather just a quick review and a few good pics. If you have ever matched paint colors with the color strips this "book" works very similar. It is a stack of cards essentially broken up into loose categories of similar conditions (ie: vesicular rashes)... you can almost look up the discription and flip the pictures until you find one that matches... the info is on the back ofthe cards mainly, some captions are on the front under each picture.
Its a great book, esp. you don't want every known detail in the world on a condition and just the facts!

Handy Dandy resource, June 10, 2007
This review is from: Dermatology DDxDeck, 1e (Cards)
This is really neat. The pictures are great and very user friendly. Can fit in your lab coat. It covers many of the major derm situations in primary care. I like the treatment section, it seems more thorough than Habif's larger red book. I'm fortunate to live in Dr. Habif's neck of the woods and attend his wonderful lectures so it helps that I know and respect the author.

Perfect for on the go learning, May 21, 2011
This review is from: Dermatology DDxDeck, 1e (Cards)
The paint swatch style of these cards is great because you can easily flip through the cards to review or compare one condition to another. The pictures are high quality and each condition has 4 images to display different findings with and explanation and treatment options on the back. I feel that this product is great for quickly reviewing various conditions, especially if you're in clinic and need a reference. Also, great treatment options as well as an overview of the 7 different classes of topical steroids with options to prescribe to patients are listed on the back of the deck. This deck is not meant to teach you dermatology or be used as a primary source if you are unfamiliar with the topic. If you're looking to learn dermatology and need a better understanding of the subject rather than a review... I would still recommend purchasing these cards to keep you fresh, but also look into a more comprehensive book to read at home.
Cons:
1.)Will fit in coat pocket, but the height of the cards makes them a little awkward if you don't have deep pockets. I solved this problem by placing another small book in front of the deck to stabilize them (The Sanford Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy worked great for this purpose. Plus it's another book that will really help you out in clinic).
2.)Not meant to teach you all of Dermatology, but instead as a reference.
3.)The pictures are high quality, but you can't take them as the only way the condition will present. Many of the conditions that I saw did look similar to the pictures, but were in either at an earlier stage or much more advanced than the pictures depicted. So, if I was unfamiliar with the condition in terms of how it presented, who was at risk and the progression, I would not have been able to diagnose it based solely on these cards.
Pros:
1.)Perfect for what they were designed to do... Quick reference, easy study material, able to carry in white coat, good for comparing conditions...
2.)Great pictures that are easy to distinguish
3.)Most common conditions that would be seen in any clinic with good treatment options and valuable information about each condition on the back of each card.
