Book Description

This concise textbook of dermatology is aimed at medical students and those preparing for the MRCP and MRCGP examinations. The information is presented in a highly accessible format, using double page spreads for each topic. Extensive use of colour for both clinical photographs and graphics makes for a superb appearance. For review for examination preparation, key point boxes are provided. In this third edition, extensive revision has been made to reflect changes in the understanding of dermatological conditions at a molecular level and the changes in clinical practice. In addition, the use of the internet for dermatological information by both doctors and patients is reviewed.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"...this is a cracking book, and the best of the undergraduate texts...a bargain to boot.
The content and layout alone will sell this book; expect to see it under the arms of legions of dermatology students." Ian Coulson, Burnley General Hospital, Hospital Medicine, February 2003
book is probably one of the best, and most reasonably priced of the dermatology books.
...this book is almost faultless in its coverage of dermatology, and definitely recommended for purchase when doing the CHDA block." Joel Newman, GKT Gazette, August 2003
a nutshell, a core text which provides a 'quick stop tour' to dermatology, with the perfect balance between text and illustrations." Fourth Year Medical Student, Imperial College School of Medicine, November 2002

5.0 out of 5 stars Concise and excellent, October 2, 2000
By
Kah Hong Goh (Calgary, AB Canada) - See all my reviews
This book is well illustrated as suggested by title. The pictures of the different skin conditions are particular helpful in enhancing one's memory of the subject. It offers ideal depth for undergraduate study and is most helpful as pre-reading and review. I covered it in a week and am sounding pretty much like a dermatologist in class. Simplicity is the key to my liking of this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars review of the book dermatology by gawkrodger, July 9, 2008
This book is very succinct and compared with the books by Habif and fitzpatrick is very short and does not include even half of the dermatological diseases. It discusses bacterial and fungal and viral diseases of the skin with psoriasis only. The explanation on each disease is good but this book is definitely very short and is not good for doctors or specialists in dermatology. In order to make it a good book it should include all or most diseases of the skin and explain it in the same way it is explained in this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple and Pretty, April 25, 2008
By
mudphud (Boulder, CO) - See all my reviews
I am a fourth year medical student going into dermatology, and I got this book for kicks because I am a book-a-holic and I liked the layout and simplicity. Probably not the first place to go for information, but might serve well as a book you leave around and flip through. I recommend the American Academy of Dermatology website as a good starting spot: check out their tutorials for medical students.
