4.0 out of 5 stars Did somebody say keep on rocking?
Finally, somebody released this--thanks to Wounded Bird Records for finally getting this out of the vaults. I was not disappointed to hear this again, it being one of the better live records of 1977. I remember hearing about Derringer from friends of mine who saw them open for Led Zeppelin that summer. This record more or less confirmed what they were saying, which...

I never understand why people will write a review of a product without actually owning that product. That is like saying a car handles great from just looking at it but never actually setting foot inside the vehicle and driving it. I pre-ordered this CD when I heard about it finally being available on CD. This record is so old, my memory of it made me remember it as a...

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!! What a pleasant surprise., January 29, 2005
This review is from: Derringer Live (Audio CD)
This CD brings back such good memories. I wore out 3 copies of Derringer Live on 8- track. I had given up on ever seeing this on CD. Yes it would have been nice with some extra tracks and some additional goodies, but beggars can't be choosers. This is an absolute live guitar rocker's dream. I purchased "The Best of Rick Derringer, Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo" simply because I never thought this would ever see the light of day again. While that is a pleasant enough piece of work that I play occasionally, the energy level of Derringer Live is incredible. The band is tight and well rehearsed. Rick never got his due as a guitar god but that is certainly showcased on this release. I am afraid I blew out my car speakers this morning while playing this CD. Oh well!

Any fans of 70's classic hard rock performed live need to pick this up right now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally..., November 8, 2004

This review is from: Derringer Live (Audio CD)
I was in high school when this album came out. I can't beleive it has taken so long to be released on disc (believe me - I know, I've looked). Rick Derringer has always been a great guitarists and this album finds him performing with a great band. For a late 70's album, the sound quality is respectable. Performance wise - the band is on fire. "Sailor" is a great song, done live it has more muscle than the studio version. "Beyond the Universe" is absolutley insane. The solo break at the end is amazing. Simply put - this album is just great "in-your-face" rock and roll. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Psyched to see this on CD!, November 4, 2004
This review is from: Derringer Live (Audio CD)
I haven't yet heard the CD but am really excited to see it out. I had the album (Vinyl) when I was a teenager and it really rocked - just an unbelievable album. I've been buying up CDs to replace my old vinyl collection, Six months ago I went looking for Rick Derringer "Live" and couldn't find it anywhere. I ended up at Rick Derringer's website and petitioned them to release this on CD. They said the label (I can't remember which label) that owned the music probably wouldn't release it. So needless to say, I'm really excited to see that it has been released. I can only hope my petition with others helped get this album released. If you want a fast-paced intense guitar rock Live album, give Derringer "Live" a try.

3.0 out of 5 stars Return to '76 if you can., November 8, 2004
This review is from: Derringer Live (Audio CD)
I never understand why people will write a review of a product without actually owning that product. That is like saying a car handles great from just looking at it but never actually setting foot inside the vehicle and driving it. I pre-ordered this CD when I heard about it finally being available on CD. This record is so old, my memory of it made me remember it as a fabulous live album. It WAS the best album period with the "DERRINGER" band line-up, bettter than the King Biscuits and the Paradise Theater shows. I know, I own or have owned them all. I always had a weak spot for little Rick and his BIG guitar. I would always buy whatever he was putting out. His best was the "Play Dirty" record in the mid-80's. Check it out if you can find it, only on vinyl though. I was excited about getting this but when it was over in one listen that is 8 tracks weighing at less than 35 minutes, I felt that my memory had let me down. It does bring back memories of a very different time. This is an average record, probably a 3 1/2 star release but I will not give it a 4 for the simple reason of the release. The year is 2004 and to finally release this as is with not one single bonus track or additional picture is a rip-off. The book contains no additional pictures or liner notes. This is a WOUNDED BIRD problem because all their re-releases have this fault (Blackfoot, Henry Paul, Loudness, etc.). Glad to see an LP finally be released on CD but to just copy the album is lazy and not a good package for any fan waiting to finally get an album on CD. There was a Live promo of Rick live at the Agora in Cleveland released in 1976, we could have had some of those tracks making this a better release but no. We deserve more! Especially with all or most of his late 70's-early 80's LP's being released as 2 LP on 1 CD. This will bring back memories which is a good thing but just not a way of thanking the fans for keeping his career alive for all these many years. It could have and should have been better

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure genius!, June 29, 2008
This review is from: Derringer Live (Audio CD)
Rick Derringer' s impressive talent became him a true living legend, despite of the fact he lived literally in one of the most significant decades the Rock has ever known about.

His fabulous fingering, audacious riffs were always supported by his mesmerizing inspiration and extraordinary arrangements.

If you still don't know this fabulous guitarist, it's time for you to get close him. Don' t miss this album, because we are talking the basic roots of the Rock & Roll in hands of one of its more important Ambassadors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Derringer At His Best, March 25, 2006
By
This review is from: Derringer Live (Audio CD)
Rick Derringer had been in the rock and roll game for nearly 15 years when this record was recorded. He had alot of expierience under is belt and when it was time to make a live record the record company made a promotion copy called "Live in Cleveland" The record never got released but got some air play of "let me in", "Teenage Love Affair" and the rock and roll anthem that is 15 minutes long "Rock and Roll Hoochie coo" The record was recorded in 1976 at a club date while on tour with Aerosmith. Hence the old marketing trick worked...people would go into the local record store back then and ask for the live derringer lp and they didn't have it. The summer of 1977 when "Derringer Live" was released people were happy to pick up the different recording. Any body that picked up a guitair in the late seventies to learn how to play was influenced by this record simply because Rick Derringer is a great guitairist and he and his band are at thier best here. The song "Beyond the Universe" is a song that musically has been compared to Hendrix. The riffs are fast and sharp and the music is loud in a Zepplin way. Anybody who is interested in playing a guitair, bass, or drums, this should go down in history as a must. It is a loaded cd with a stellar line-up Danny Johnson on guitair, Kenny Arronson on bass, and a 19 year old Vinny Appice of Dio and Black Sabbath fame on drums. Don't deny yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazons TIME MACHINE @ RICKS BLAST from da PAST, February 14, 2010
This review is from: Derringer Live (Audio CD)
AWSOME 10 BIG stars ,..... This GEM not only a HUGE blast from the past ......... EVERY SINGLE SONG is a kick ass piece of musical showmanship ......... EVERY SINGLE SONG is a great tune in its own rite. The whole thing, the entire album rocks as hard as any live recording ever made, since the beginning of time till now and beyond. After I figured out a way to get a message to him( through the company that builds the Rick Derringer signature model guitar) contacted Rick personally and requested this album in particular be made available again ASAP on modern digital format. I explained to him that I knew for sure 10 tens of 1000 thousands of fans wanted to replace their old records and cassettes ...... And I also explained those same masses of old and new fans would rush to purchase this album specially because it was not available for so long on modern digital format. Add to that it was such an important record to so many growing up in America at a time in their life when they were happiest and basically had little are no responsibility. On top of all that .... Its one of the GREATEST LIVE RECORDINGS of a Guitar showman in history. This band Rick had assembled was clicking on ALL CYLINDERS and DERRINGER was the supercharger.... What a line up, the group blazed on so fast it seemed as if they could explode on stage at any second. This is another balls to the wall performance that seperated the Men from the boys. I was never the same after listing to this album .. DERRINGER raised the bar.
One Question ....................... Where in the HELL is the MP3 downloadable version ? Why is it not available ? And why is it not a featured product ? What the HELL is going on at Amazon ? O K, it was 4 Questions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Live Rick Derringer CD, October 1, 2008
This review is from: Derringer Live (Audio CD)
This CD is a great example of what Rick Derringer could do live. With the more fusion-oriented Danny Johnson as foil for Derringer's bluesy style, this band created great music that Derringer had trouble equaling with 80s albums such as the heavy metal disaster GOOD DIRTY FUN, which was a total waste of the talent that G-d gave him. This, along with ALL AMERICAN BOY, DERRINGER, LIVE AT THE PARADISE THEATER, and Derringer's work with Johnny and Edgar Winter, are the ultimate Rick Derringer library.
