Yay Area Game,
By A Customer
This review is from: Derty Werk (Audio CD)
Look, dont buy this album for lyrics. Buy it for its supream slappage level. Ant Banks and the guests make this album tight. Rappin 4-Tay is a great MC and Captin Save-em is funny but occasionaly annoying. Luckaly there are many guest appearences that keep the flows strong like: E-40, B-Legit, Keak Da Sneak, Agerman, Spice One & Too $hort."Players Holiday" is a classic by any standerds. "The Game" is an old school gangsta style hit. If your into the bay sound this is a great album. "Cross Me Up", "Pervin", "Drinks On Me", "On The Reala" and "Can't Change" are all good songs, but if you dont like bay flava you wont feel these as much, this is why people hate on this album, they dont get it. If you like that orginal blay area sund, you'll love the album.

This album is unbelievable! Too short and the rest of the crew sound mad tite together. "Players Holiday" and "Pervin" are the best songs on the album and the rest of the album is solid dope. All you haters don't hate. You gotta be from the Bay Area and have a real love for hip-hop to recognize this album. Ain't no place like the Bay Yay!

THE ALBUM PRESENTS BAY AREA RAP AT IT'S FINEST!,
By Philip Y. (Israel) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Derty Werk (Audio CD)
This album is one of the best ones to come out the Bay Area recently. It's produced by the Bay Area's best producer Ant Banks so the music is just bangin'! Ant Banks is on that album together with his crew which includes Bay area rap veteran Rappin' 4Tay and Captain Save 'em. The album has 14 songs which feature some of the best rappers on the West Coasts - stars like B-Legit, E-40, Spice 1, CJ Mac, Mac Shawn and many other appear on this tight album. Even Poohman appears on that album, which means he and Banks have sttled the major beef they had. Get this album which is so good! Every song is different - it has songs which are a bit more hardcore and also some laid back joints. Ant Banks is a genius and this album is even better than his last one Big Thangs which was a classic.

Fa-bu-lous,

It was exactly what my husband has been looking for, and I was glad that it was here on amazon. We had tried to buy it from music stores and could not find it. He had given up on trying to find it. So You can imagine his surprise when I presented it to him. Thanx for this gift; it was in perfect condition, and he has not stopped listening to since I got it.

Hes lost hes consistancy,

I to like everyone think the rapping on this album is just down right terrible. Tracks such as Ride wit me have potential, but where does a Ant Banks beat of that calibre deserve the gayness of the guess whos back the player whos here to stay crap. Even my beloved Big Bad Ass puts down some lame beats on this album which was disappointing and surprising. Still cross me up, gameless mortals and stragglers come through with funky bass that is at least worth bumpin to. This album is only slightly better than lead the way and thats more due to it having a larger range of bangin tracks as apposed to better tracks. I think the lack of typical Ant Banks funk on hes 2 TWDY releases maybe the reason why they have done little else since. But what drugs was Banks on to allow some of the worst hooks Ive ever heard be used with hes beats. I suppose nobodies perfect

Weak lyrics brought this down, but Ant saved it a little,

After listening to Ant's BIG THANGS and hearing PLAYERS HOLIDAY on the radio, I had high hopes for this album. Unfortunately, the wack lyrics a lot of these guys have dragged it down. The only thing that rescued it was Ant's production skills.CROSS ME UP, THE GAME, DRINKS ON ME, and PLAYERS HOLIDAY were the only decent songs on the album. I suppose PERVIN was okay, but the rest of the tracks were just hella weak. It's obvious why these MCs don't have their own albums...they ain't got no skills! They may have game, but their lyrical style is just limp. CJ Mac especially is annoying to listen to. If you can get this for a good price, then the four songs I mentioned definitely make it worth it. Otherwise, I can't really say that I'd recommend it.

Ant Banks and the dangerous crew ain't no 2-hit wonders. They've been layin down the tight beats for a long time and this ain't no exception. "Cross Me Up", "Pervin" and "Drinks on Me" are the sweetest tracks on the cd (you already knew "Player's Holiday" was tight). Buy it, and if you like it, buy "Best of Ant Banks"
