About the Author

Shahabuddin Abu Hafs 'Umar Suhrawardi (1145-1234) studied Sufism under his uncle Ziaudin Jahib Suhrawardi (1097-1168), the founder of the Suhrawardi order. Shahabuddin became the official Sufi master of Baghdad, served as the caliph's ambassador to the Abassid rulers of Egypt and Syria as well as to the Seljuks of Rum--modern day Turkey.
