An intriguing premise undermined by weak performances, uninspired direction and some illogical plotting.
Jeremy London greatly overacts his role of Ethan Poe, a descendant of Edgar Allan Poe, who is working on his latest novel. Pre-Gray's Anatomy Katherine Heigl is okay in her role of another Poe descendant. Poe himself appears as a ghostly apparition haunting Ethan. It doesn't take too long to realize young Ethan isn't playing with a full deck. A series of brutal murders leads local cop Nick Stabile to suspect London.
It's all laid out in a smarmy neo-Gothic style with pseudo-erotic undertones.
Could have been better with a better actor than London and a higher thrill quotient.

This is a very different Kh from greys anatomy , her TV series.

katherine Heigl can disappear into a character and this story, though rather scary, keeps up the pace and a surprise ending.
I would recommend this video to anyone who like this kind of semi-scary entertainment. Of course , the ending is not really original but still good.

Before most Hollywood Videos closed here in Abq, NM I bought this movie. There wasn't many movies left to choice from. I bought five other movies, which all sucked. I was expecting this movie to suck just as much. But surprisingly it wasn't bad. It's not the best movie out there, but I look forward to watching it.
