More About the Author

Angeline is a Scorpio living in the Rocky Mountains with her husband and two dogs. She loathed dogs and their "stick to me everywhere" hair until she fell for a pit bull.

She works full time at CPA firm and is going to school to get her Accounting degree. While she's slaving away, trying to figure out why accounts aren't balancing, she's dreaming about books.

She started reading seriously- staying up all night to finish a book and buying every new release she could afford- after finishing Twilight. Say what you want about the series, but it got a lot of people reading, so it's brought more to this world than just sparkly vampires.

She loves all things paranormal, but her favorites are vampires, werewolves, and zombies. In that order.

You can find out more about Angeline at www.angelinekace.com.

This is not your typical vampire story. These vampires can go out during the day and actually are born into what they are. They are called Pijawikas and Brooke finds out that she is half Pijawikas and half human. Just when her life was going along perfectly.

After finding out her true nature, Brooke, her best friend Kaitlynn and her boyfriend Jaren are all whisked away into hiding. She soon finds out that the Pijawikas people look at her as an abomination due to being a half breed and actually will threaten her life.

Along with all of that, there also begins a love triangle. I really enjoy the love triangles in stories. I think it makes the book more intense and this triangle was really intense! I cannot say whom I like more, Jaren or Mirka. They are both pretty great, but I will probably end up being Team Mirka. He seems to have a little more "bad boy" in him;-)

"Whoa, Jaren," I stepped in front of him. "You broke up with me. Remember? Either I'm your girlfriend, or I'm not. But you do not get to push me away and then stake a claim on me when another dog comes sniffing around."

Dear Ms. Kace, How can you leave me hanging like this? Cliffhanger ending! The story builds up leaving you wanting to have the next book right there...NOW! There is a little shock factor at the end and I cannot wait to find out what happens in the next book!

Will Brooke choose whom she loves more? Will she finally find out whom is threatening her life? Will she and her friends be safe enough to return home? Not sure, but the next book seems to be scheduled for release at the end of September 2011. It cannot come soon enough!!!

If this book had a completely different cast of characters I might have enjoyed it. The plot was interesting and with some editing and attention to detail it could be even better. I appreciated the twist on the usual vampire story line and enjoyed the author's ideas. However, this is the only part of the book I liked.

When I read the sample, I was hooked because I liked the characters. The mountain lion scene was cheesy and poorly written but I was able to ignore that and hope for better later in the book. The friendship between Jaren, David, Katelynn, and Brooke made this easy and I wanted to read more about them. Unfortunately, the book only went downhill. My first problem was with Jaren and Brooke's relationship. I get that they knew each other for two years before the book begins but this does not make up for the lack of character development much less relationship development. They go on one date and suddenly Brooke is clingy and overly emotional. Jaren comes across as a pretty boy who is stringing her along. His character has no depth and Brooke begins crying over everything. Every other sentence she is crying and Katelynn is comforting her. I will not go into the fight between Brooke and Jaren but I will say that I was more than a little confused/annoyed by it.

When the paranormal is introduced in the book it takes a fast slide downhill. Mirko is a likeable character and I wish that the author would have focused more on his relationship with Brooke and his past. However, Brooke's extreme moodiness ruined everything. She was either in a rage or crying. Then, to top it all off she starts behaving like Carrie on prom night. Every chapter it seems she has a new power and is amazing everyone.

Now, you can't say that that doesn't sound interesting! I've read a couple vampire books in my days, not that there have been many, but I definitely have read atleast 20 vampire books before. Some of them I liked, but most of them I disliked. I love paranormal things, but I eventually felt as if they were getting kind of... repeating . I kinda took a break off of paranormal stuff. Then wonderful Angeline decided to pop into my life, introducing me to awesome!

Brooke's life has never been the easiet thing in the world. With her mom not being able to stay in one town for a long period of time, it gets difficult for Brooke. Finding friends, then being forced to move. But, finally, things change. She meets her best friend, and the boy of her dreams, and she stays put.

While with that dreamy boyfriend of hers, Brooke encounters a stalker that she has been facing, but keeping secret for quite some time. She then realizes her incredible amount of strength and potential after killing the man.

After a long discussion with her mother, Brooke begins to unravel the truth. Understanding secrets that have been kept for her whole life. She packs up her best friend, and boyfriend, and goes to Mirko, the only one who can protect her...(AND MY FAVORITE!)

The story is wonderful. LOVE the plot, and detail that Kace has put into her debut novel. It's wonderful, and SUCH a refreshing story! Ill let you guys name your own decision, but I must say, I am now claiming Mirko from this day forward! :)

The characters are so strong, with each person being an individual. I find in many books I've read, there are lots of dependence. And while that is the case in parts of this book for obvious reasons, it's not totally. And I like that!
