Review

When Jim Travis' wife dies in childbirth, she leaves him with a son and a deep seeded feeling of guilt for bringing her to the wilds of Arizona. Left with an infant and a ranch to run, Jim is left heartbroken, frustrated and desperate. So desperate, in fact, that when he goes to evict some squatters on his land, he spontaneously offers to hire their oldest daughter as a nanny to his son. Jim is surprised to find that the father doesn't hesitate to take Jim's money in exchange for his daughters services, and the large family seems to have no concern about leaving her behind when they move on. March is distressed to be leaving her mother and little brothers and sisters, especially since her father is an abusive good for nothing, and her mother is pregnant again. March herself just lost her baby and is still reeling from the situation her father put her in. Selling her virginity to a local rich boy, which resulted in her tragic pregnancy, March herself is grieving her lost child. Thinking that Jim knows of her situation, she nurses his son freely, surprising Jim with her condition. The local townspeople believe that March is a tramp and certainly not good enough to take care of Jim Travis' new son. But as Jim stands by March, many of the townsfolk come to understand her and accept her for just who she is, and realize it was March's father and the young man involved that were less than worthy. March wins the hearts of many, however, including a few men, and only then does Jim realize his feelings run deep for March and that she, unlike his first wife, is strong enough to handle the hard life on an Arizona ranch. But when March's father returns looking to cash in on March's good fortune, will she have the courage to get rid of him for good?Desert Angel is Ms. Forrest's best novel to date! These are characters that will stay with you for a long time to come! It's so easy to believe that Ms. Forrest's characters are flesh and blood and deserving of all the love and good fortune she brings them! Full of the best, passion, excitement and adventure...warmth, love and gentleness! They don't come any better!Diane Potwin -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. 3.0 out of 5 stars Story a bit too contrived, July 24, 2008
By
This review is from: Desert Angel (A Zebra Heartfire Historical Romance) (Paperback)
This story was a little too visibly designed and contrived. And I got tired of here nursing breast being exposed for every lusting man and his dog to see. That got old! It is one of those reads best picked up at the library.

5.0 out of 5 stars So many angels in this story...and so many devils, July 24, 2005
This review is from: Desert Angel (A Zebra Heartfire Historical Romance) (Paperback)
I loved this story. Life is tough in the West and there are evils, including those on two feet. The protagonists have more than their fair share of heartache. But, there is also much beauty and happiness in this story. The heroine is someone that you can cheer for and admire. It is understandable that she gains the respect and love of all who come to know her. Especially Jim Travis, her employer and most ardent admirer, who is everything a man should be. Honest, honorable, very strong, intelligent, virile, protective, gentle when needed, hardworking, not to mention handsome. They are perfect for each other, giving and loving, and they heal each other's wounds, the hardest of which, were planted on them by those who were supposed to love them. All the characters in the story are believable and engaging. I found that the character named Breed I rather fell in love with myself, since he is everything our hero is as well. The story does not ever get boring and moves rather quickly. I know that I will read it over and over again. I recommend it highly to anyone who likes romance.
