Hannah Marcus is an artist who combines atmospheric music with literary leanings. Like some of her heroes like Nick Cave and Michael Gira, it seems like we have a novelist here who has turned singer. Not only that but she also has collaborated with Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Rick Moody on most of this record. All which makes something that many fans of Leonard Cohen would admire. The songs are slow, quiet, and subtle. She grew up on the music of Red House Painters and American Music Club too. All of which is more popular in Europe. They enjoy this gloom and doom. People would be better if they got their heads around this record. While not outrageous and novel, it is still an important statement. It is a subtle message, yearning for listeners beyond the goth crowd.

Hannah Marcus is one of those little known treasures. I have been listening to Her ever since Frank Andrick, Poet & Broadcaster, gave me a cassette of music years before available on cd. The music She composed for D.F. is as haunting and thought-proking, as is all Her recordings. Buy this album, and even if you do not like it, stay with this artist, because She has a message that may not make sense at first, but someday you may wake-up and appreciate Her just as much as we do.
