4.0 out of 5 stars a pleasent, tranquil, and engaging work by a jazz master
Surprizingly this album begins with a synth modulation and still manages to command respect. Ibrahim masterfully blends the synthecized sounds to give them soothing warmth and richly stated character. That, however, is only the first track. On acoustic piano he takes you through the rest of the cd with a conversational gate that at times verges on monotone but...

3.0 out of 5 stars Mellow and Pleasant
Abdullah Ibrahim at the piano softly plays some sweet music on this CD. Although it is not as upbeat as many of his works, it is definitely a worthwhile piece. Should have 3 and 3/4 stars.

On acoustic piano he takes you through the rest of the cd with a conversational gate that at times verges on monotone but never becomes dull. This is a wonderful work to relax quietly with or have on for a candle lit dinner.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Overlooked Classic!, April 5, 2005
This review is from: Desert Flowers (Audio CD)
A true classic by South African pianist Abdullah Ibrahim, who was also known by the name of "Dollar Brand". This was recorded in New Jersey in 1991 and released on this rather obscure label. Especially notable is the opening track, "The Praise Song" (subtitled "Welcome Home"). It was composed on return to Cape Town after 13 years in exile. A CD well-worth listening to!!
