Desert Journey is an encouraging novel. It is founded upon an interesting metaphysics, and well decorated by the beautiful desert imagery. The protagonist Jerry's strength to accept the difficulties that arise in his life, and his willingness to look within himself to learn from his experiences are both truly admirable.

High Adventure for the Spiritually Inclined

Have you raced through much of a book then put it down because you didn't want it to end? That's how I felt about Desert Journey by Dr. Jerry Burgener. Dr. Jerry rides his horse, named Liberty, to Superstition Mountain in Arizona and found himself on a spiritual journey that took courage, the same courage that drove him to jump from a plane in his youth. Beginning with a "lesson for happiness" posed by his spiritual guide Tom, to "stay in the here and now," Jerry finds the lesson more challenging than he first thought.

Once mastering the lesson, Jerry invites risks even after Tom warns, "Be careful what you ask for; you might get it." He experiences astral travel, past life regression, and greater understanding of challenges with relationships in his current life. Tom's central spiritual questions are only partly answered - "what is love and what does it have to do with existence?" Jerry leaves the desert and promises to bring readers with him on another journey. With bated breath, we await his next book.

If you're looking for a deeper understanding of spiritual experiences, an engaging description of the desert southwest, a sensitive relationship between a man and his horse, or you're a feminist who cares what happened to strong men when we liberated ourselves, this book is a must read.

Heartbreak - something that only time can heal. "Desert Journey" is the tale of Jerry's journeys trying to get over his loss of time with his past relationship - but finding relaxation isn't as easy as it seems. A meeting with a Native American Wise man reveals the truth of Jerry's life which is not all of what Jerry wanted to hear and Jerry must find himself to truly understand himself to find what he really wants in life. "Desert Journey" is a novel packed full of spiritual insight, sure to help readers find themselves alongside Jerry and is highly recommended.

Have ever wondered if you were the only one wandering thru life looking for more? There is comfort and hope for us all in reading one man's account of searching for the true meaning of life while going thru life's ups and downs. Desert Journey is a must read!

I found this novel Powerful and Engaging!

Dr. Burgener's experience as a psychologist is pleasingly evident in his first novel. He teams this knowledge with an innate ability to simplify the most complex psychological subjects. In "Desert Journey" this ability helps him explore the most basic yet mystifying subject with which we all struggle - Relationships.

The character "Jerry", a self-described adrenaline junkie who loves skydiving, flying helicopters, riding motorcycles and the martial arts, finds himself struggling after another failed relationship. He asks himself "How can someone considered so adept at facing fears, be so imprisoned by his emotional fears." Jerry's journey and encounters with the mystical "Tom" serves to bring clarity to why we repetitively act and react the way we do in relationships.

Whether you are male or female, spiritual or non, I believe Dr. Burgener's novel will capture your attention from start to finish. I truly enjoyed reading "Desert Journey."

Being middle aged myself, this was a journey that was necessary for me to join. So many times I felt I was right there and many times I could not put the pages down except to become too tired to keep reading. It enabled me to look deeper inside of myself. Loved it!

This is a must read book for anyone who really wants to know themselves. As you begin to read Dr. Jerry's personal journey, you will feel little ripples in your subconscious and before you get to the last page you will have looked deep into your soul and began to ask all the why's that are sure to have surfaced. Dr. Jerry's own personal journey will resonate with anyone who has asked themselves why their relationships work out the way they do. Jump in and take the journey, it is definitely worth it!
