4.0 out of 5 stars More like 4 1/2 stars....., June 23, 2008
This review is from: The Desert Lord's Baby (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
Carmen had fled from Farooq Aal Masood, pregnant and alone. After all, their relationship was only intended as a fling and Carmen never thought she could get pregnant! Now, Farooq is determined to claim both Carmen and their child, Mennah. Will his sense of betrayal prevent him from seeing Carmen's love for him?

At first glance, THE DESERT LORD'S BABY is everything I don't want to read in a book. Farooq is a very dominant man and his power has made him used to others giving in to him. This is where the gift of an author truly shines however. Olivia Gates makes me like Farooq! In fact, she makes me understand him and see his point of view in the entire scenario as Farooq's passion for Carmen shines through every facet of his being. Carmen's fear of Farooq's reaction to the pregnancy has tainted her mental view of him, but her actions show what she cannot yet acknowledge herself: that their love is powerful beyond words.

Olivia Gates writes some of the most stunning scenes! The image of Carmen during the henna process is perhaps the most incredible and revealing scene of THE DESERT LORD'S BABY. The depth of Carmen's love begins to reveal itself as she yearns for him with every fiber of her being. I think it was at that point that I fell in love with Farooq's character as well... and the grand finale of the tale only solidified my belief that Farooq's tough exterior hid a compassionate heart of gold.

Olivia Gates writes one heck of a romance tale! THE DESERT LORD'S BABY is incredibly sensuous and it is beautiful to see Carmen and Farooq look beyond the exterior to what is in their hearts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Passionate, explosive, poetic!, May 12, 2008

This review is from: The Desert Lord's Baby (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
THE DESERT LORD'S BABY is the first of a 3 book mini-series set in the kingdom of Judar, a kingdom ruled by sheikhs and kings. Olivia Gates is as much poet as romance author in this short romance in which the language itself has all the power and passion as the hero and romance. If you like passionate romance with dynamic, powerful romantic conflicts told mostly through the heroine's viewpoint, THE DESERT LORD'S BABY is a great choice. From the initial prologue to the last page, THE DESERT LORD'S BABY is a fast-paced, put-on-your-seatbelt romance read.

Carmen and Farooq have a passion together, a passion so intense that it could burn up oxygen, leaving them (and the reader) gasping for air! Together, Carmen and Farooq share the intimacies of passion, their bodies hungering for each other, intoxicated by their desire. After their first night together, Farooq offers her a three month deal to accompany him on a tour for peace and relief. Carmen never even considered the monetary benefits of being a prince's mistress. Her passion for Farooq wanted nothing more than Farooq and his love until a sudden change of circumstances forces her to rethink matters. Discovering that she is pregnant, suddenly Carmen must think of her child's future and safety. She cannot let her child be a pawn in the royal Judar household and the political intrigue that might endanger them all. She walks out on Farooq. She travels over continents to keep their presence hidden from forces she cannot control. Farooq has one passion --- to find Carmen and her baby and nothing will stop him, not even her. Hurt by her lies, Farooq is determined to make Carmen pay but can a fated love like theirs turn things around?

Powerful, passionate and virile, Farooq demands attention, not just from his royal position but from the force of his personality. Carmen is equally determined and ferocious, especially when she has her child to consider. Can Carmen protect her daughter Mennah and love Farooq at the same time? Can he not only seduce her but win her heart? Can he show her that a man can serve country and family at the same time? Can their love for one another survive when Farooq is a man destined to lead Judar, a man called forth to serve his country, through blood and through merit?

THE DESERT LORD'S BABY, Olivia Gates' debut in the Silhouette Desire romance line, is a romance full of passion and emotion from beginning to end. The romantic conflict between Farooq and Carmen sizzles with dynamic energy, sensuality, and unspoken secrets. Olivia Gates puts together a hero and heroine whose passion for one another leaps up off the page. Mennah, cute and yet just as audacious as her father for grabbing what she wants, moves the reader's heart as her presence and exuberance for life shines in the presence of her parents. Olivia Gates paints a beautiful portrait of a father loving a daughter, truly valuing his child for herself. THE DESERT LORD'S BABY looks at the body with powerful, poetic and unforgettable imagery --- especially during Carmen's wedding preparations. In this romance, the reader feels the power of the body, the senses experienced by the body as amazing and beautiful, especially when love inspires her characters. In the first of the Throne of Judar trilogy, Olivia Gates captures all the passion and poetry of romance. Brava!

The Throne of Judar mini-series continues with:
The Desert Lord's Bride (July 2008): Shehab's story
The Desert King (September 2008): Kamal's story

4.0 out of 5 stars Desire, May 27, 2008
This review is from: The Desert Lord's Baby (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
Olivia Gates is a fantastic addition to the Silhouette Desire line. The Desert's Lord Baby kicks-off what should be a passionate 3 book mini-series, Throne of Judar.

Farooq is definately an Alpha male who knows what he wants...Carmen. The passion between these two is electric and the second half of this book has a scene that is intensely erotic and very romantic. I'm looking forward to the next two in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A heartfelt romance with scorching sensuality, May 11, 2008
This review is from: The Desert Lord's Baby (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
Be swept away into the fascinating world envisioned by the creative Olivia Gates, where her imagination takes readers to new heights. Her new series regarding the Throne of Judar is captivating from the first to last page as intrigue and passionate emotions frequently intertwine. Words can barely describe the magnitude to which THE DESERT LORD'S BABY affected me, whether it was from the fervent love scenes or the powerful yet sincere feelings between Farooq and Carmen. These individuals are both determined in their goals, and their responses are influenced by genuinely realistic thoughts and actions. Farooq is an especially dominating male, and his presence in any scene definitely stands out. Throughout the story, I found my own heart either racing from their shared lusty passions or even aching for the anguish they suffered at times for what seems can never be. Every instant of this story is shown with convincing reactions and insightful emotions, and each moment totally drew me into the lives of this unforgettable couple.

The colorful descriptions of the traditions and people of Judar contribute to making this story utterly enchanting as the scenes come alive with authenticity. Ms. Gates cleverly shows that the passionate love between a man and a woman cannot be denied, regardless of their culture. There is also the unresolved situation concerning who will be the next ruler of this desert kingdom, and the author keeps this concern simmering all through the story. With misunderstandings being the starting point of this story, the road traveled by Farooq and Carmen is filled with intense yearnings yet numerous heartaches, too. THE DESERT LORD'S BABY is overflowing with profound emotions plus fiery sexuality and keeps the reader devouring every word.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just the begining, December 16, 2011
This is the first book in the " Throne of Judar" series. I loved it. Usually you find that a series starts off great and then slows down. Not the case with this. Mrs Gates is leaving you wanting more. It is a great story and not to long and drawn out. Also be prepared you may start to plan a vacation to Judar ( if there is a place)LOL....

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot, Explosive Prince of Judar, February 15, 2011
This review is from: The Desert Lord's Baby (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Desert Lord's Baby is a very good read. Farooq and Carmen sizzle from Page 1.
Carmen is having a red hot affair with Farooq but leaves him when she finds out she is pregnant.Farooq is not a happy person when he catches up to her months later after she has had his daughter. Since the baby girl is a Princess, Farooq demands that she return with him to Judar. Carmen does not want to be separated from her daughter so Farooq takes her with him and demands she become his wife so their daughter will be recognized as a princess.
There is a lot of misunderstanding between them but they cannot get enough of each other after not being together for so long. The love scenes are red hot. I was unable to put the book down. Olivia Gates is a great writer.

This review is from: The Desert Lord's Baby (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first book in the Throne of Judar Trilogy. This book sets the scene for the other two books. Farooq is the eldest brother and along with his two brothers are not just passionate men but Crown Princes of Judar.
In the first book Farooq and Carmen are two intense individuals. Farooq is a man that knows what he wants and takes no matter what the consequences. Carmen a very passionate woman struggles with her emotions. As much as she loves Farooq she knows that he will never trust her if she stays with him. He is a man that demands trust. Carmen knows that the news of her pregnancy will kill any feelings he has for her. She knows that she has to escape. She leaves him and returns to California. Farooq is like a man possessed when he learns why Carmen left him. He travels to find her and regain what she took from him.
Once Farooq finds Carmen he finds the passion for her is still there, but he will be the one in control as he forces her to return to Judar with him. He will make her pay the price for deceiving him. Once there these two passionate people find that what they have and share will sustain them through any crisis.

This is a story of love and forgiveness.
The compassion between these two strong individuals will make you cheer them to the winners circle.
This story is a five star read. A MUST read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Desert Lord's Baby - Baby, You Gotta Read This!!!, December 20, 2009

This review is from: The Desert Lord's Baby (Silhouette Desire) (Mass Market Paperback)
I love this book! Olivia Gates used her characteristically flawless style of deep emotions, intelligent layers, and vivid descriptions to write one dynamite book that I read in a single sitting.

The chemistry between the two characters jumped off each page, then to boost it into the stratosphere, she added a baby. A baby! The description of her cherubic face alone caused me to ovulate on the spot!

Throw in a 6'4" alpha male whose guarded heart has turned to jelly at the first glance of her two-toothed, drooly grin, and your heart will melt, too. Theirs is the most amazingly real, deeply emotional, poignant father/daughter first encounter I've ever read. Gates had me smiling through my tears.

One of my favorite scenes of all times is where we meet Farooq's brothers, the heroes from the other two books of the trilogy. Seeing the three gorgeous alpha males passing around the newest little addition to their family, and witnessing as she melts their hearts, took my breath away. It was this scene, too where Carmen first began to win over her future brothers-in-law with her wit, talent for languages, and refusal to be intimidated.

But, it isn't all baby cuddles and giggles. There's a question of legitimacy and oh, yeah keeping the crown in the family. All that, and Olivia still manages to bring us plenty of the hottest, most passionate love in all of romance.

Once again, Gates keeps us thoroughly enthralled in a world of such rich and vibrant description, that you'll have to ask yourself later if you read the book or watched a movie.

You won't want to wait between books, so you might as well buy all three at once!
