MUST READ,
This review is from: A Night in the Desert of the Holy Mountain (Discussion with a hermit on Jesus prayer) (Paperback)
Metropolitan Hierotheos Vlachos has written a spectacular piece of spirituality with his work "A Night in the Desert of the Holy Mountain." The book is a conversation between an elder on Mount Athos and the author on the Jesus Prayer ("Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Have Mercy on Me a Sinner").
I would not advise practising the prayer without a very experienced teacher but reading this book is a good start to the introduction of hesychasm ("The Prayer of Silence"). At first, Hesychasm seems very strange but it is only with the practise of the prayer and devotion to God; Father Son and Holy Sprit; God, the Eternal Wisdom of God, and the Eternal Sprit of God that one can begin to accept that fact that we need God more than we can ever imagine.

This review is from: A Night in the Desert of the Holy Mountain (Discussion with a hermit on Jesus prayer) (Paperback)
This book is a must read for all Christians.
Plain and simple, this book will be counted among the classic books of Orthodox spirituality on the "Life in Christ" as experienced through the Jesus Prayer. To refer to it as the "Greek 'Way of the Pilgrim'" would be an understatement and a disservice. In fact, it is an interview of a living Saint (divinized man) by a man who is himself extremely spiritually advanced, with a refined sensibility for Orthodox spirituality, developed through years of prayer, study, and ascetical relationships. "A Night in the desert of the Holy Mountain" is a definitive explanation of transfigurational theology as it is meant to be practiced by all, in keeping with the teaching of St. Gregory Palamas and the complete continuum of Eastern Church Fathers, par excellence. Read it to receive a blessing.
