5.0 out of 5 stars This is something beyond 'Country Music', July 29, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Desert Rose Band (Audio CD)
I'll readily admit that I have never been a fan of country music but this band sweetened me up to it real quick! There is a magical mixture going on with The Desert Rose Band. The lyrics are great, vocals sweet, and the tunes get stuck in your head. Chris Hillman does have a very nice voice and the great back ground vocals provided by John Jorgenson and Bill Bryson add the finishing touches.

Two of the songs on this album 'Time Between' and 'Hard Times' have the most amazing mandolin parts, thanks to John Jorgenson, what a fantasitic sound! The song 'Once More' is done beautifully too with sweet vocal harmonies.

Country music fans as well as plain old music fans(like me)won't be disappointed by this great work by The Desert Rose Band. ENJOY!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional album from an exceptional band., August 19, 2006

The first album from the Desert Rose Band is a true classic that should be heard by everyone who calls themselves a country music fan. The harmonies of Chris Hillman, Herb Pedersen and John Jorgenson are spot on and John Jorgenson's guitar and mandolin playing are one of the best in the music industry.

HIghly recommended - a real joy to listen to. Great driving music. There are no songs to skip over on this one.

One Step Forward - Five stars. Fast tempo. Enjoy a fine solo by John Jorgenson. My favorite song on the album

Love Reunited - Five stars. Fast tempo again. Great lyrics.

He's Back and I'm Blue - Five stars. Slower paced. I'm not familiar with the original.

Leave This Town - Four stars. Mid tempo. Good lyrics about a guy who is leaving town because his wife (?) has been unfaithful.

Time Between - Five stars. Not great lyrics but musically wonderful.

Ashes of Love - Five stars. Fast tempo. Musical perfection.

One that Got Away - Five stars. Mid-tempo. Great hooks in this one.

Once More = Four stars. Slow tempo. Sort of schmaltzy lyrics but I like it.

Glass Hearts - Five stars. Fast tempo.

Hard Times - Five stars. Fast tempo. Excellent music and lyrics. My second favorite song on the album.
