First time i've heard the original version, i knew it's gonna be one of Sting's best ever Single so far. Finally it came out as Single and remixes are so coooool...Thanks to Victor Calderone again for putting his effort again to remix these single. Anyway, you should listen to full version and the Club Melodic mix instead, where else the remixes version of Brand New Day are more likely similar to the album itself. One thing that I bought these single is not only for Sting cause plus that great voice of Cheb Mami who's singing as background vocal. I did saw both performing these song at the 42nd Grammy Award & they were so greaaattt..

I loved Sting's collaboration with Cheb Mami, "Desert Rose," and think that it is a very beautiful, moving and inspired song. But I was a little disappointed by this single CD. First, you don't get the complete version of the original Desert Rose song, only the edited Radio version and the Melodic Club Mix just goes for banging, techno sound and loses the feeling, the essence of the original song. There's also two versions of Brand New Day which I don't get because this is the CD single for DESERT ROSE, not brand new day. The cover even says "Featuring Cheb Mami" but instead of getting a few more versions as in the single for Santana's "Maria Maria," we just get a radio edit and a radio edit club Mix. Aside from that, Desert Rose is a great song, if you want the complete version, get the "Brand New Day" album.

Sting has definetly reached another level with this single and he succeds in helping his audience reach the same amazing level. Not only is the music amazing the words are incrediable. And Cheb Mami has by far the best middle eastern voice I have ever heard!

Having travelled the Omani deserts and wadi's this song reminds me so much of these trips. I play the song over and over again and feel the warm sands, see the beautiful colours in day light and the thousends of stars at night, hear the silence.... The song "A thousand Years" is just what you feel when visiting the fortresses in Oman. A great country (Oman), a great song (from the CD "A Brand New Day") from a great singer. For all who have ever travelled deserts or the Middle East.

the song, Desert Rose, but not the re-mixes in this CD single. Buy the album - the original song is much, much better - I give that one 5 stars. In the Melodic club mix Desert Rose Cheb Mami is drowned out by the instruments at the beginning and that is one of my favorite parts. I think I'll find someone to give this to or donate it to the local library and listen to the full album instead.

The Desert Rose single is the best thing that I have heard in a long while. I love the fact that it combines a strong Arabic influence, I love to hear other cultues in mainstream songs. The melodious voice in the background just transports you to another place. This is a must have!

Whenever I hear this song I am amazed. This song is so wonderful that I have my CD player repeat it. I never grow tired of it, it is so captivating and wonderful that I find myself off in a daze when i listen to it. Desert Rose is like an amazing piece of art, it has so much to offer and it is beautiful. When I first heard this song, in the middle of winter, I was inspired, and I went for a run effortlessly- I felt like i was floating with the music. This song is so great, it's almost spiritual. I feel caught in this maze of emotions that are just (for a lack of a better word) AMAZING. I LOVE THIS SONG! I knew in January that it'd be popular, and I'm so happy it's getting air time! This song is inspiring, spiritual and superb! Out of all my Sting songs, this is my favorite. It's my favorite not only because it's beautiful and it's lyrics are captivating, but also because the background music is awesome too, everything has been put together so well. Both Sting and Cheb Mami are great sounding, Hey, Desert Rose isn't the only awesome song on this CD though, check out Brand New Day with Stevie Wonder, After the Rain has fallen, and Ghost Story. I LOVE THIS SONG/CD- well, actually I love almost anything by Sting, who has mastered so many different musical styles, everything he does is magic... =)

This is a great CD, the cut Desert Rose is almost like a victory song for those who live in the midst of the sands of life. I always thought Sting was a thoughtful essayist in his lyrics and his talent has caught my ear eversince his first successful single "Every Breath You Take". There's a genius in his music, and in the play of words of his songs. This CD has been a frequent background to some of my own "workouts" whether in just walking briskly across a "field of gold" or doing a few "military arts moves" in the silence of my living room. Desert Rose is just uplifting, and gives a spirit of victory to the mind.

Three cheers for Sting! I love Algerian Rai, and Sting's decision to collaborate with Rai singer Cheb Mami is an insightful one with wonderful results. The music is both hauntingly beautiful and very danceable. This single should finally bring Rai and the music of North Africa to an American public still ignorant to the music of most of the rest of the world.

Go out and buy Sting's "Brand New Day" CD, or better yet, one of Cheb Mami's CDs. You'll love it!

When i heard desert rose i was free ,free from today tommorow and every thing that comes from every day life ,and it was exactly what i needed to hear and feel for those few minutes listening to this song which inspired and motivated me . My review may not count for much,and i may not know how to write a review, but i know what i like and what moves the soul.
