Product Description

Echeveria is a large genus of about 100 species of succulents, in the Crassulaceae family. They are native from Mexico to northwestern South America. The genus Echeveria is named after the 18th century Spanich botanist Atanasio Echeverria Codoy. Several of these species are outstanding garden plants. It's a genus of justly popular, beautiful and easily grown succulents, particularly suitable as house plants. Grouping a variety of Echeveria cultivars together is an ideal way to display the diverse leaf shapes and forms. The mature rosettes grow up to 20 cm in diameter and eventually form many offsets.

Hardiness zones 9-11, (-5 C/25 F, 4 C/40 F). Most species grow in the shade and can take some frost. The plant prefers bright direct sunlight. During the growing period, normal room temperature is suitable. The plant is fairly drought tolerant. Allow the soil to dry between waterings. These plants prefer dry soils and need good drainage. Do not allow the water to collect on the rosette. Use a good cactus soil mix. Fertilize once a year by diluting to half the minimum strength recommended on the label of a standard house plant fertilizer.

Hirt's Gardens... where to start? I have bought 4 packs of seeds from them. Of those seeds, 3 out of 50 cacti seeds have sprouted. That's it.

To be brutally honest, I purchased seeds because I was enthusiastic about indoor gardening, but Hirt's obviously has several screws loose. If you plan on buying seeds, NEVER buy from Hirt's Gardens. Their seeds do not sprout, and to top it all off, they have failed to even send the fourth packet of seeds. I bought two products at once, and they charged me the full price (obviously) then I got the envelope, opened it up... and there was ony one packet of seeds. Not only had they neglected to inform me that they were out of stock on seeds, but they had charged me the full price despite the fact that they had failed to send the items I WAS CHARED FOR. The only indication that showed they even knew about this was a short note next to my order details saying "item will be shipped within 14 days." it's been three weeks... so may I ask where my item is, or shall I make a claim on my bank statement instead? I refuse to pay for something you obviously don't feel the need to inform me about...

Bottom line, do not buy this product, or any other product by Hirt's Gardens. If it isn't already dead, it'll be dead soon enough.

3.0 out of 5 stars a bit off guard., February 12, 2010

the seeds came quickly, however i may have missed this in the posting, but the seeds are very very small. they look like tiny specs of dust in a small baggie. In summation there was no issue with and part of the dealings, i was just caught off guard by the size of the product.
