Product Description

The military despot General Kilbaba has threatened to destroy his enemies, including the United States. You have been given orders by the President to embark on a series of pre-emptive strikes. Pilot your Apache attack helicopter through hostile terrain, as you seek to destroy any enemy vehicles you come in contact with. There are a large number of power-ups that will help you with this task, and saving your allies will give some nice bonuses as well. If you can complete all of the missions, the world will have no reason to fear General Kilbaba in DESERT STRIKE: Return to the Gulf.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF MY FAVES., February 1, 2008

This review is from: Desert Strike (Video Game)
This is one of the greatest games made for the sega genesis.I have the two sequels(JUNGLE STRIKE The Sequel to Desert Strike & URBAN STRIKE The Sequel to Jungle Strike)in that order. While JS is probably the best this one started it all an hooked me on the others. In case you tried any of the sequels after US on ps1 or ps2 dont be fooled those were not good. The 3D look of the game was ruined on the superior systems making it look like a 2D side scroller and very cluttered trying to add to much detail. The 3D look of this game is awesome I still own it today as well as the sequels and play them from time to time.Desert Strike Return to the Gulf was based on the first gulf war and made for a very entertaining game. You may find it hard at 1st but it has a save/password feature and some of the levels farther in to the game are easier(the second campaign is really tough)The different campaigns are the levels and each one has several objectives that must be completed in order to move on to te next campaign.Sometimes the order can be changed but the enimies who are nearby the current objective are tougher to defeat. You are flying an apache helicopter eguipped with a gattling gun, hydra rockets, and hellfire missles and must continue refueling, reloading your ammo, and repairing your armor by collecting the diffirent icons which will be lifted by winch into your copter. You pick a copilot at the begining of the game who have better/worse skills with the gun & winch. As you progress through the game rescueing MIAs & POWs you will unlock other copilots with better skills with both the gun & winch that you can select when you continue with a password. You fly around rescueing MIAs,POWs,& civilians, destroying enemy structures & vehicles,(they hold valuble icons)enimies on foot and completing your objectives. In some ofthe campaigns the fuel and armor and ammo is really scarce but for every MIA/POW/civilian,& captured enemy you drop of at somtimes various/somtimes scarce base camps you get more armor that is really the hardest icon to find and while at the base camps there is ammo and fuel also but use it only if you need it you can see you status of everything by looking at a HUD(head up display)that also shows your objectives completed and remaining. The graphics and 3D look are what really make ths game great and although by todays standards they dont look that good I dont or dont remember any games with the same kind of feel and I am really glad that I purchased this game from some guy who was selling his games in a newspaper ad.As I said JS is the best because electronic arts added the feature of changing vehicles that you must do to complete some of the campaigns and US also had diffrent vrhicle and even some campaign where you had to go on foot.Overall this is a great game I suggest you try JS which is also more challenging than DS but I like to play games 1,2,3(DS,JS,US)in order, take if from someone who still owns a genesis, sega cd,32x,and nearly 300 games last time I counted thi is a great game.
