The Shire Archeology Series are a favorite of mine. You get a good overview of the subject with a nice amount of technical detail. This edition is no exception. It is well illustrated with aerial photographs of the crop marks indicating the layout of the "villages". Quite a lot of information can be gathered just by examining the photographs.I'm also fascinated by the fact that even though some of these once bustling settlements have been deserted for hundreds of years, they have left an indelible mark on the landscape. |
