Deserter is 2007 Spur Award Finalist for Best Original Paperback, April 1, 2007
This review is from: Deserter (Mass Market Paperback)
Paul Bagdon's Deserter was awarded finalist in the 2007 Spur Awards (a prestigious recognition for a fine writer-- Winners of the Spur Awards in previous years include Larry McMurtry for Lonesome Dove, Michael Blake for Dances With Wolves, Glendon Swarthout for The Shootist, and Tony Hillerman for Skinwalker).
Bagdon writes action so well it makes the reader gasp. He's a great storyteller and writes so descriptively, the scents and images of the West reel the reader right in.
Personally, I think Partners is his best work. If you like Deserter, you'll love Partners and vice-versa.

A fun read, December 14, 2006
This review is from: Deserter (Mass Market Paperback)
An enjoyable Western that lets the reader see inside the mind of a deserter to decide the moral dilemma for himself. There is a psychological progression as an undercurrent throughout the book, making it even more interesting. The writing is very descriptive and solid, with some good suspense and lots of action. He knows his stuff regarding the guns and the horsemanship of the period. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am going to read some of Bagdon's other books now.
